Ya true. It's more of a battle rifle. Mine does have a bayonet too, lol
My understanding of it is that battle rifles fire full power cartridges, like 7.62x51/.308 or 30-06 (which the Garand does) and "assault" rifles fire intermediate cartridges, like 5.56/.223 or 7.62x39 (which the AR-15 and AK-47/SKS do, respectively).

WTF? What drives a pretty ordinary kid to go batshit crazy? I would love to know why he wanted to carry out his plan. Why did he want to kill his parents? Why did he want to shoot up his school? Its a pity that we dont know anything about his motives yet.

I'm glad he was stopped in time - the kid needs serious psychiatric help. Its amazing nobody picked up on it thus far - he must be pretty disturbed and I would think that would be visible to those close to him.

Why didnt God look after all those other people that have been killed in school shootings?

That's because the other people didn't pay their membership fees, duh! What a silly question.

He set off “practice bombs” on the playground at Hartley Elementary School, Faith United Methodist Church, Oak Park and high school softball fields.
Seriously?

After reading that and realizing that "practice bombs" = practicing leaving bombs and seeing how many people come around them (or something to that effect) - I realize that the story is written to make it sound as bad as possible. Not that this wasn't a bad thing; just that there seems an obvious intent to skew/exaggerate some of the details.

That's weird,I read the same article you did, and don't know how you ”realized” that he ”placed” practice bombs, versus ”set off”, as it said in the article.

Where are all these wackos coming from??? I think they should install metal detectors in all schools and have cops man these places. Time to build up the police force and stop this BS.

I went to High School there. Waseca is a pretty crappy town, always has been. Small and way out in the boondocks. Not a suburb at all.

Not going to get into the politics of this but thankfully the woman who called 911 on this kid was able to do so. If she wasn't in the right place at the right time

Sounds like the woman was a suspicious nosy bitch who got lucky. I mean c'mon, her list of suspicious activities was "didn't walk on the road," "took too long to open the door," and "had trash and walmart bags inside." Maybe the article is shitty and not telling everything, but if that's accurate she doesn't really deserve much praise...

I've never heard the term "battle rifle". Probably made up by someone trying to justify calling an AR-15 an assault rifle.

Battle rifle is actually pretty common, as is Assault rifle. Thing is people use the terms incorrectly and make themselves look dumb.

Battle Rifle= Semi/Full auto rifle shooting a full powered round (7.62x51/.308 etc)

Assault Rifle = Select fire (Can do both semi and full (or burst ) ) rifle that fires an intermediate cartridge (7.62x39, .556, 5.45x39 etc)

An AR-15 is not an assault rifle, it's just a clone of the M16/M4 on the outside with changes to make it semi auto only.

I don't get how it's being charged as attempted murder.. but good for them catching him before he did anything.

And why 4/20 anyways. Isn't there a day for heroin, meth or prescription drug use or something?

idiot

This time, that date wasn't chosen for anything drug-related. It was chosen to emulate the Columbine Massacre.

Maybe those two in 1999 chose it as a drug reference...who knows.

What I find most odd about this story is that the kid seemed completely willing to confess all his plans to the police - even his intent to kill them had he been armed. I guess that's just another facet of what clearly is mental illness.

I believe it was because 4/20 is Hitler's bday. If not, it was probably some nazi related thing.
