I agree with the Neighbor. I'd call the cops for tresspassing if she does it again. She shouldn't use the flag our soldiers die for to sell her services with.

I have no problem with using the flag on company material. Hell I work for a defense contractor and make a lot of our marketing material. However, a flag in someone else's yard with company advertising on it is too far in my opinion.

It's not a company...my wife is self employed. There is a compliments of paper with her business card stapled to it. Nothing more.

It's obviously a little itty bitty advertisement. If it doesn't have anything to do with your wife soliciting possible income, why attach the business card? Just plant the flags and be done with it.

Well, of course it is marketing...She isn't just doing this out of the kindness of her heart, she wants to sell houses but I don't see that this is a big deal. Fvck, all kinds of businesses run these big patriotic ad campaigns with the American flag on it for 4th of July weekend. They are clearly using the holiday to make money. Do you people boycott those businesses because they are using the flag and this holiday to try to make money?

Your wife was in the wrong. Deal with it. She was spamming people's property and using the flag in a technically illegal manner.

While I'm not one to call the cops on someone for something like this, you shouldn't be complaining when she was in the wrong.

It's not illegal. She also passes out pumpkins on Halloween to all the houses in our area.

Most people actually appreciate it.

I'm not sure if it's illegal or not, but some similar things are illegal. It's not legal for someone in military uniform to sell anything.

10ft or so from the curb is government property anyhow. Thats how they can build a sidewalk and put posts and boxes in it.

Then a call to cops would be good for littering and soliciting on public property. Some people just don't get it. I doesn't mater who it is from if it is purely patriotic.

I would agree there is no reason to go off the deep end but at the same time it bugs the hell out me that people go to such lengths to pedal their services/products. I would put it under the same category as spam. Yes, I know you think I need your product but I DON'T!!! There, you happy now? You done drove me off the deep end 😉 Like a few others said just leave off the card as everyone will likely know who they came from anyhow 🙂

You're right, it is a little itty bitty advertisement. Big businesses use holidays and national symbols to sell you stuff all the time. I don't see a problem with it.

Hey Jules,
How about you post your address so that some of us can leave freebies in your yard with our business cards? You won't mind, right? I mean, why get all bent out of shape if you keep waking up to unsolicited stuff in your yard?

There's a difference between a company logo with the US flag in it and a flag with a business card stapled to the pole. There's a difference between companies flying the flag on their property and what your wife did.

They'd probably appreciate a blowjob much better.

Hey, that's a great idea? I'll call NAMBLA when he posts it.

Well, I think the "courtesy of" card gets around that "rule". Technically, she's not selling anything or asking you to buy anything-just letting you know who left the flag. The card can be pulled off easily and discarded just leaving the flag.

Incorrect. That doesn't get around the rule. It is quite obviously an advertisement.

I wouldn't do anything like that.

I'd do exactly what his wife is doing. Something nice... with my business card attached.

At first, he might like it or think it 'nice', but probably after the 10th time or so, he'll start to see just how annoying it gets.

you also don't seem to see why others do have a problem with it, despite many reasons being spelled out clearly for you. you are an "opt out" guy. I prefer to "opt in", and if I haven't done so leave me alone.

big businesses aren't leaving unsolicited "patriotic" advertisements on my lawn.

i wouldnt like it either..
there is a guy in our neighborhood that goes around every year and puts up American Flags in everybody's yards and I love it.. however, he does it solely out of patriotism or love of country, there is no hidden agenda...
i wouldnt even know it was him if i didnt see him do it and so i know that he's just doing it to for good reasons...
your wife is marketing, and i agree with Yosarrian..
I don't think I would like that either. She's using the flag to sell her services which doesn't sit all that well with me.

Wrong, it is illegal.

It is illegal to use a flag in advertising.

"The act, among other things, makes it a misdemeanor, punishable by fine or imprisonment, or both, for anyone to sell, expose for sale, or have in possession for sale, any article of merchandise upon which shall have been printed or placed, for purposes of advertisement, a representation of the flag of the United States"

Hahahahaha! Owned!

I agree that the wife was in the wrong sticking business cards in other peoples' yards.

The United States Government (the one that makes the laws) does see a problem with it.

Your wife can either suck it up or complain in court, in which case she will definitely lose since she's breaking the law. Or the neighbor can complain in court, in which case he will definitely win. This isn't a shady interpretation of the law, there is nothing nebulous about it. It's straightforward and clearly worded.

They sure do load up your mailbox though I bet.

I can see your point though...maybe it's something we should reconsider.

BTW-She will still do the monthly newletters...just like all the other agents who market the area. Might have to rethink the flags though.

I wouldnt want someone sticking their marketing products in my yard without first asking me, it's common courtesy IMHO.
