It is hugely capital intensive and you have to look at what your ROI might be. Current trends actually add to your risk as McDonalds is very unhealthy food and sources exclusive from factory farms. While much of America doesn't give a crap, the proportion of americans that do is growing. Why do you think the contents of a happy meal have evolved so much in the past few years? So while owning a Mickie D's maybe a license to print money, it might not be worth the initial investment if you actually did some due diligence...

If you actually think the idiots crying about health food are going to slow down the average person's craving for a Big Mac, you're just as dumb as everyone buying gluten free soap.

Until the franchise wars commence, which Taco Bell will win, McDonald's is a safe bet. A location that doesn't have a McDonald's within a certain number of miles, will succeed.

I just read an article that said there are a lot of young Americans who don't have the skills to be viable in today's market. Who will be paying for these people in the form of food stamps, housing assistance, etc... Me and you. Get ready to pay even more tax dollars. Hope you all like working for other people.

Also, the article compared Chinese to American school system. In 2018 the Chinese are going to graduate over 200 million high school students. We are going to graduate only 30 million. The sheer size in China is going to assure the country that they are going to have an ample supply of engineers, mathematicians, and scientists.

Or it may be that they have a bigger problem than we do.

We're nearing a breaking point where there is going to have to be a massive paradigm shift in economics. Neither the right nor the left has the answers. The right has their heads in the sand and the left believes we can redistribute our way to prosperity through the countless masses buying more shit. Both sides are useless.

And #2. Is there any other degree that clearly advertizes "I'm outta here as soon as I get my side business going"? It's the sorta degree that might only be valuable to an actual entrepreneur that wants extra business help.

I was thinking similar. It sounds like a degree that would be useful alongside a different major. Maybe as a minor even. Because even if that is your intention, who is going to get a side business going straight of college? That's something you can maybe realistically do a decade after you graduate.

Lots of people create businesses in college or right after college.

Yea like steve jobs after harvard and bill gates after harvard and Mark zucker after harvard oh wait shit they were already pretty rich in college nevermind. And for the rest of us we are racked by student loans after taking a couple classes.

Agree 100 percent. We need people who are going to forge ahead with new ideas. The issue is this will not happen because most of Congress are old men, and they are in the pockets of big business. Can you really expect positive change when we have old white men like Mitch McConnell in office. The guy is 80 years old. The 1950s are over. Get the f*ck out of office, and give your seat to someone 40 years your junior!

The school unions are partly to blame as well. The system sucks, period! Revamp the system. Let's start by doing away with summer breaks. They are too long and disruptive to learning. More hours educating and less tine with extra curricular activities are a good start.

meh, I got anecdotal stories but you could just watch shark tank for a few weeks to see countless examples of college kids making businesses.

They can start by fixing the patent system. It's retarded when you can draw an idea (with no proof that it actually works) and claim a patent for it. I already ran into this issue myself. I ran into a patent that had about 20 different schematics, almost randomly done just to cover ever possible combination that could be done.

I actually have an idea and will be doing the computational work for it over the next year to prove it works exceptionally well, under certain circumstances. And then I may even make the thing as a post doc. It is something I believe I can launch a start up with in a few years. But I'll be damned if these people who made this drawing patent are going to get any credit at all for my work.
