14" widescreen is about the perfect form factor for portable and still big enough to use comfortably, I love 'em. I just wish they would make a higher resolution screen, like WSXGA+ for 14" wide 😉

Check out how thick & heavy it is in person. There are some light 15.4"s out there that aren't too bad to carry around.

Also HP's dv1000t (14" Core Duo) is out, and as always HP is a good bargain. Check that out too, not as good of a value as the Acer but 14" and Core Duo!

Very typical of CommyUSA. It will be back In-Stock as soon the ad expires. Anothe on-line retailer crook, IMO.

If the Compusa laptop is OOS than this might be an alternative for some.
How about this from Microcenter. Looks like the same setup except 1GB ram instead of 2GB and 100GB hard drive instead of 120, for 1399. You can also get this for 1299 instore if you apply and pay for the laptop with the Microcenter VISA card.

We ended up picking this up from CompUSA yesterday. I think it would have been difficult to find a more loaded computer for the price.

I'll try to give my impressions after using it for a while.

2gb in a laptop is a Good Thing. I have 2 gigs of ddr333 in my a64 3200+ laptop, makes all the difference in the world. Tack on $200 to get the 100gb 7200rpm Hitachi hard drive. I don't think you'll see a huge speed increase with the 7200rpm hard drive, but games should load faster. The 2gb makes a huge difference however. Everything flies with it and is extremely smooth. I usually have 4 or 5 Firefox windows open with multiple tabs, mIRC, iTunes, Illustrator, and InDesign open with no lag problems anywhere. Good stuff.

Here you go

Is 10lbs, 2.6GHz dual core for $3500+ okay with you?
No offense intended to that "article", but that particular Clevo-based machine was available quite a number of months ago.

Nostalgia bump. I grew up near West Melbourne.

From the looks of the ads for next week, this laptop becomes even MORE of a steal.

In the ad for Feb. 12-18, this laptop is:

$1499.99 - $50 Instant Savings - $150 eRebate = $1299.99!

I'm really tempted now, but I just bought my current Acer laptop in the summer of 2005..and it's been great.

crapp, i just ordered it last night for 1500. Anyway to still get the rebate?

Wow... I wonder if they will let me "return" it using the receipt and then rebuy it so that I can get this new deal...

Can anyone confirm that next weeks ad has this one sale?

this would be huge for me! I picked mine up, but haven't opened it yet, so I can easily return and buy it.
