I'm trying to start a compilation thread for all the issues with the 6800 series. Everything from the video processor, the constant lockup problems people are having, issues with horrible performance in certain games (EQ2)...there just seems to be something wrong with the 6800 series, whether it is one thing or a whole pile of problems, they need to start getting solved. We need to determine where the problem is coming from, IE drivers or is there something architecturally wrong with the cards. does the issue spread to the 6600 series? I think we can safely say that these problems cannot all be attributed to system incompatiblity, there is something deeper. I would like everyone to start reporting their issues and system specs, we need to try and find a trend, if one exists. thanks everyone for your input.

My friend verified the water fix in EQ2 made his performance and stutter much better with his 6800GT. Just an FYI.

i know, that helped me as well, but its really just a band-aid. there is something wrong.

I haven't had any problems with my card at all yet.. only complaint I had is with need for speed underground 2..... with my 9800 pro (4.6 and 4.11 drivers) I had zero problems, and solid performance. with my 6800GT, with the 66.93 drivers, I can see through the roads, if I am going up a hill, I can see the cars over the crest of the hill, through the road, and I can see the underglows on all the cars, coming right throuhgh the body of the car. pretty annoying, and I have really no idea why.

but other than that, all my games run great, and no crashing or any other problems.

thanks for the input craig, theres another game to add to the bugged list...but lets switch from games for a bit. there are tons of people having freezing problems. anyone have input on that?

do we...? I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to start here. The vast majority of 6xxx series owners have been happy with their cards, myself included. Are there issues with these cards and some games? Of course there are, but I don't think I've had any more issues with this card than I have ever had with any other card I've ever owned.

i personally think most 6800 problems are motherboard and PSU related.
the rest are user errors.

I don't think he wants to hear from people who haven't had problems. That will only dilute the issue. . I think this is a serious topic and if noone has had serious problems, then the thread would naturally die. I hope this doesn't turn into a bunch of "My 6800 runs perfect" posts. :disgust:

I had one of my friends buy a 6800 and the other a 6600GT. both cards are dynamite. one of my friends has the following problem with his 6600GT. Whenever he plays Doom3 full screen, he gets lots of tearing when moving 360. If he plays from a window expanded to the size of the screen, everything is fine. That's how he was forced to finish the game!!! I tried installing a few different driver sets, and nothing worked. He didn't seem to care, and all the other games he played were fine.

Well, I'm glad some people there have it all fine, but my ASUS v9999 GE (6800) card has been having overheating problems in a stable machine with perfectly normal ambient temperatures.

I have tried anything short of PSU replacement and BIOS updates.

I've even done an RMA to Asus. The card got back with 10 degrees upgrade! (i.e. after RMA it is ~10celcius higher in idle mode [was ~50-54c, is now 62c]! Plus - now it's winter!!)

Personally I don't know if the problem is related directly to the 6800 GPU or the Asus card, but the problem exists, and I'm stuck with it!

I have the PNY 6800NU and the only problem is the the when I unlock the 16 pipes I get artifacts. But it performs rock solid with a small over clock (350 core and 800Memory) and 6 vertex shaders. Games I play:

I don't think "the rest are user errors" necessarily... there are bound to be some issues with some things not related to bad hardware. my NFSU2 problem for example, old card comes out, new one goes in, no settings changed in the game or anything for first run.. and right away i notice the weird see through roads and cars.. it's not too bad, it's just other cars' lights and road lights, not everything... but still weird, and never did that on my 9800p. i doubt that's mobo/PSU related ... likely it's just the drivers.

That happened ones with my 9800pro. It was annoying, but only happened till I restarted. Then the problem was gone and has never apeared again.

So, you don't even own one of these cards, and yet you create a thread like this?
What the thread title should have said is something like: "Help me decide if I should get a 6800 or not".

Generally, if someone starts to make comments on something they have absolutely no personal experience in, well, who will take you seriously?

6800's are fine GPU's. You will enjoy yours. And, if Karma says that you receive a broken one out of the box, I expect to see a "All 6800's are defective" thread from you.

If you'd care to notice, i made no attempt to pass judgement on any of the issues. your correct, i have no right to comment, that is not what this thread is about.

where the hell did you get that? furthermore, "broken" is a horrible term to use in this situation...

No offense, hyperlite, since I'm interested in this topic too, but when you write something like "Those of us who are are despretly seeking resolutions to these problems," it definitely makes you sound like you are a 6800 owner who is having problems with YOUR card. When you use the term "us" you are by default including yourself.

I have a leadtek 6800 GT. I've had no problems in any games I've played so far. Doom3, HL2, Farcry and EQ2.

I can play EQ2 at 1600x1200 in "extreme quality" in some outdoor zones. but High quality for most of the game. They only problems I have had have been in cities which I think is not related to my video card and more to do with the game itself.

no problem with me so far.

I am still too happy from being able to run Farcry with highest setting with HDR @ 7 and how smooth it ran.

same goes for HL2 and Doom3... ^^*

???????????????? How did this help you if you do not own a 6800? Did you imagine that it made
your imaginary 6800 stutter less? But not completely? Look, don't pretend that this thread is to help
"all of us". It's all for you. There is nothing wrong with that but don't make it seem like we all need to
band together on these "issues". Say, "I need advice or help or whatever" and you will most likely get it.

My 6800GT took a lickin' and kept on tickin', so to speak; One of the tube on my WC system came loose during a routine water change and dumped a fair amount of water on my mobo and GT. Let the thing dry out and booted the system with no problems later that night. Side note: always use ddH20
