in that case, I'd say your 6800GT was actually quite 'fishy'!! ;)

I don't think "the rest are user errors" necessarily... there are bound to be some issues with some things not related to bad hardware. my NFSU2 problem for example, old card comes out, new one goes in, no settings changed in the game or anything for first run.. and right away i notice the weird see through roads and cars.. it's not too bad, it's just other cars' lights and road lights, not everything... but still weird, and never did that on my 9800p. i doubt that's mobo/PSU related ;)... likely it's just the drivers.

That happened ones with my 9800pro. It was annoying, but only happened till I restarted. Then the problem was gone and has never apeared again.

I just disabled the neon and lighting and now it's fine :p

I had one of my friends buy a 6800 and the other a 6600GT. both cards are dynamite. one of my friends has the following problem with his 6600GT. Whenever he plays Doom3 full screen, he gets lots of tearing when moving 360. If he plays from a window expanded to the size of the screen, everything is fine. That's how he was forced to finish the game!!! I tried installing a few different driver sets, and nothing worked. He didn't seem to care, and all the other games he played were fine.

Hi,

What do you mean by tearing? Is it when there is a slight blur on the screen when you turn? I have a more pronounced blur when playing doom 3 as opposed to FarCry. Do you know if there is solution to this problem?

do we...? I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to start here. The vast majority of 6xxx series owners have been happy with their cards, myself included. Are there issues with these cards and some games? Of course there are, but I don't think I've had any more issues with this card than I have ever had with any other card I've ever owned.

Sorry, I didn't realize that you were actually referring to this thread and not the 6xxx series. You are right, there is something fihsy about this thread where you seek to find solutions to problems you don't have.

The only legit problem I've seen on this thread yet is the one with the Asus card overheating, which doesn't seem to have anything to do with the 6800 core itself, but with the cooling solution. That problem sucks, no doubt, and I hate to hear about anyone having problems, but cooling is a solvable problem. I would suggest getting an NV5 Silencer to cool that card. One could argue (and I agrree) that you should't have to buy an aftermarket cooler for your card, but sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands.

I have had my 6800 U since July. I have not had any problems with mine.

While, there are people having legit problems, a number come from user error. Not enough power being sent to the card, insufficient cooling inside the case, etc...

When cards start getting that powerful and power hungry, the weakest link is sometimes the rest of your components.

Yes, enable vertical sync under advanced video options in Doom3. This will reduce your FPS overall, but will make the game run without tearing. With a 6800GT the reduction will not have an effect on playability of the game.

Pucker factor? Try heartrate jumping to the 200 bpm range! Thankfully, the scare was short lived...like I said, water at 18 mega-ohms/cm purity doesn't conduct charge short of a direct lightning hit.
