So pull your pompous head out of your ass.

I hate to break it to you, but only in America can you own a car and be considered "poor". Cars are NOT necessary for life, you know. If you can't afford to pay a traffic fine, don't do anything illegal...and if you DO get a ticket, explain your situation to the judge and they'll be lenient. Believe me, I know about not having money.

In fact, I'm sure that many "poor" people would be amazed how much money they would suddenly have if they sold the car. Talk about a huge financial drain.

I hate to break it to you, but bus service doesn't go everywhere and some people still need to work to eat. If that isn't necessary for life, I don't know what is. And an old POS car isn't exactly an expensive item.

I'm not defending the speeding moron, but you're an idiot. You think one lone speeder is the biggest threat on the road? Get a fsckin' clue.

I never said he was the biggest threat on the road, I said he was a danger to everyone on the road...and he is. You'll have a hard time convincing me that someone going almost three times the speed limit and weaving in and out of traffic is less of a threat than the guy talking on his cellphone.

As for transportation, there are plenty of options: move, get a job nearer to where you live, bike, carpool, collect unemployment if all else fails, etc. Though honestly, after having your day in court and explaining the circumstances, very few people really CAN'T afford a ticket.

Americans are just too tied down to the idea of driving to work.

Where the hell did you get the idea he was weaving in and out of traffic? This was an empty freeway at 1 in the morning on a weekday. Doesn't make it any better, but let's stick to the facts, eh? He wasn't endangering much of anyone but himself.

As for the rest of your post, spoken like a true Authoritarian Liberal, I guess. Who gives a fsck about the little guy unless you're trying to drum up sympathy to get people to pay more taxes, eh?

Is there anything you say that isn't total crap?

What, you can't figure out that that is KPH? Maybe someone asked about it, and I got to learn that there are a shitload of definitions to meter? Also, something else I learn that seems appropiate right now...

I must've been very lucky...back in the mid 80s, I rode my bike along the floating bridge that spans lake Washington at 155mph, at four in the morning, and no traffic or cops.

Looking back, that was a very stupid thing to do, but I'm older now.

Did you see the actual news story?

They were saying that they were "talking" with the district attourney on whether they can get him for driving with a suspended license, again, based on the footage channel 6 captured. Heh.

I didn't see the story, but to drive your car from the impound lot with a suspended license is pretty stupid, even without news cameras filming you.

Yeah, it's things like that that almost make me wish you had to insert a valid, non-suspended driver's license to start your car.

Almost.

But driving on a suspended license should carry KILLER penalties, and it doesn't.

Maybe one day you'll have to insert your license (like the taxi drivers in "Fifth Element") to start the car...

American drivers are way too speed obsessed. The German autobahns, with no speed limits, are statiscally safer than US freeways with their strict speed limits. This is because Germany focuses less on speed as the cause of auto collisions and more on the REAL causes, like poor driver education, poorly maintained vehicles, and truly unsafe driving practices like tailgating and poor lane discipline.

I'm more concerned about the fact that he had a suspended license with no insurance.
It's incredibly hard and expensive to get a license in germany. That is the primary factor why their roads are statistically safer.
