Fourteen is far too young to be sprung out on your own w/o any type of supervision. Sounds like she did well with the first living arrangement, I wonder why it was changed? Parents should have been checking in occasionally even if they were assured someone would contact them if there was a problem, I think.

She probably placed a lot of pressure on herself to fit in, which usually doesn't go hand-in-hand with good judgement.

It was everything to do with morals. She obviously enjoyed what she was doing since she kept it up for 6 months.


The parents are partially to blame in this as well, if I read the article correctly it appears the mother initiated a call after 6 months of this kind of thing had passed. It seems to me the parents should have been more involved about what their child was doing while away at school.

My thoughts exactly, it seems like these days parents are always shifting the blame of what their kids do on someone else. The school does share some of the blame, but it seems like these parents are trying to put the blame entirely on someone else to raise their child.

Same thing in Columbine, they blamed everything from movies to video games. What about the parents?

When I was 14 (over 15 years ago) I probably would have succumbed to peer pressure from much older kids. It is very hard to resist peer pressure especially when you are surrounded by much older and sophisticated people. It seems like she did a good job the first semester but got misled after being put in a very bad environment. There is only so much you can do when being bombarded everyday by temptations without anyone to watch over you.

I'd agree though, her parents are directly at fault for not supervising her.

Good analogy, Arkitech; comparing this situation to Columbine. Where were the parents? Don't get me wrong; teens will do whatever they want to; I know I did. But I got my butt beat for it numerous times. They take a 14 YO girl, send her far from home...most prolly she was "physically mature"...what did you think was gonna happen, DAD?

How many times do you think this girl got gangbanged while laying passed-out drunk in some dormitory bed? 10? 20? Tack a zero on the last number. Internet pics and video to follow, I'm sure. Not being mean or cruel; you know I'm right.

The university is also partially to blame for not checking up on this young lady. The sports coaches knew. Of course they did! Duh. Why did they do nothing? Because this behaivor is the way "it's always been" Boys will be boys and as long as they win that big game on Saturday, the coaches will keep sending the "geek ringers" in to take their tests for them, and the wheel goes round and round.

I agree peer pressure is powerful, I can understand someone maybe doing a few things to fit in. But this girl went beyond just having sex once in a while or having a drink or smoke every now and then. She was basically a strung out slut. (excuse the harsh description) She crossed that barrier between casual sex/drinking to over indulgence.

Its a shame tho, whats worse is the guys who took advantage of a minor and offered her drugs. They should get locked up.

Its kinda sad that instead of the parents pursuing the people who corrupted their kid they are after money from the school.

They made a conscience decision not to check up on their daughter for six months. I mean that's like leaving a mouse in a cage full of snakes. Sooner or later the mouse will be eaten up, or in the girls case, fall prey to peer pressure. She was left there to die in my opinion. Who in their right mind puts a 15-year old in a dorm with 19+ aged college MALES. That's like asking her to be fvcked multiple times.

Fsck that, a young girl was taken advantage of. End of discussion. The other students who took advantage of her are at fault. The faculty that turned a blind eye is at fault. The parents, they are at fault as well. Parenting will only hold up so long in the face of so much peer pressure. I don't know about the law suit being ok but damn, the school should face some sort of consequences. They explicitly said that they would be keeping special care of her and that they would contact the parents if anything went wrong. They broke their promise. And for those of you saying that the parents should have kept better contact, how many times have you lied to your parents while still living under their roof? Pretty easy huh? How much easier do you think it is to keep the lie going over the phone or in letters? This whole ordeal is disgusting. I hope the people who took advantage of her are all castrated and sent to jail with "Statutory Rape" tattooed on their foreheads.

Well said, although this girl should have never have been tempted to begin with she still had a choice. I think everyone will agree however that the guys who took advantage of this girl should be beaten with wooden mallots and sent off to prison for a looong time
