"you cant do that so you aren't allowed to criticize"

that is basically what classy and sp33demon are saying, yet i see him criticizing nfl players in the nfl threads all the time (sp33demon that is).

i guess you missed where i gave her props regardless, but that's okay you just want to dodge that part.

sp33demon also ignored my question about if he saw the box on the girls chest when she did it.

and no i could not do 330lbs the correct way right now, but i've done 325lbs before when i was my biggest, the correct way. i could 100% do what this girl did in the video if her max is only 240 or whatever, because right now i can do 295 the proper way, with back flat on the bench and no "gear" like she has, bar to chest and back up.

No that's not what I am saying. This is it in a nutshell, people can talk about her gear, ROM, form, and all that. But this is a young woman, 14, who is able to handle 330 lbs. It may not be pretty, it may not be all perfect, but for anyone to say this is not impressive is full of sh!t, period.

and i never said that so i'm not sure why you even quoted me and replied to me about that then if that is your point.

but i can also see why people wouldn't be that impressed with it either because it's basically cheating. just like i'm not impressed at all by the guys who can bench press 600+lbs using gear like this.

Yeah I saw the box, that isn't that big of a deal since she was clearly able to handle the weight. She'll get below the box with time.

295 is pretty good, just be careful if you're benching past 90 degrees was all I was saying. I've popped my AC Joint by going all the way down and it takes a long time to recover from.

Oh, you're talking about not pausing. I'm sure she could still push it and lock out with all that armor on. The video is showing her training anyway, not competing and she was clearly in control of the weight.

Powerlifting doesn't require a "full ROM bench press rep". Arched backs are safer since they're saving the lifter from going past 90deg. Whether you agree or not, her form is 100% legal and like I quoted earlier, she already holds the absolute world record for under 15 with her 240 raw press. Check out the video.

Not a fan of her sticking her tongue out while still holding the bar (2:16) but she's a little girl so it's forgivable.

I'm not even just talking about pausing. She's not completing a full ROM bench from lock out to chest (that's what I'm saying is full range). There's two blocks there. That's a big difference from a full ROM bench.

I understand that powerlifting doesn't require you to do traditional form. However, the arched back is by no means safer overall. Does it reduce the strain on your shoulders? Not really, you will just increase the weight you can do for a smaller ROM. In addition, that causes a ton of excess stress on your spine. Yes, it does prevent you from going into shoulder extension, which is safer for the biceps tendon and maybe even pec, but it's not safer overall.

My take on the super-arched back is that it essentially just seems to turn the lift from a flat bench to a decline bench press.

And yeah, not a huge fan of the girl's form (or that form in general), but very impressive nonetheless.

"The only reps you don’t grow from are the reps you don’t do." - Greg Pitt

You are guys are arguing over nothing...the touch your chest v. 90 degree debate is as old as lifting. You will benefit from both, do what you prefer and don't worry what others think of it.

Yeah I personally recommend tucking in elbows to the 45 and bringing the bar to the chest, but I honestly don't give a shit what other people do if it doesn't affect me.

Yeah I do the 45 tuck and down to 90. The past couple of months I've been using the method of 90deg on the eccentric part of the lift, which stops about 3/4 of the way down before touching. The shoulders feel completely rejuvenated. I used to always get the impingement pains by going all the way down so my growth was stalling out. At one point, one pec was larger than the other because of previous injury where one side was cheating due to shoulder pain. Amazing how bad impingement can fuck you up once you get into competition level weight.

Hm, I saw a few videos like that in past.
She definitely is strong for a 14 years old, BUT:
- she's stuck in some space suit and has to get help from two people and can't even take it off herself
- the arch she does with her back is way above ridiculous
- it's off two boards, so range of motion is like 10cm

I do admit I really strongly dislike equipped powerlifting with their close to zero range of motion, weird style, and 50 layers thick shirts and inability to perform jack shit alone.
I can bet you she wouldn't be able to bench 60kg without that suit and with half the arch.
So all in all, I am not impressed. I would have been much more if she did some proper classic squats or pullups. This is comedy.
