That's one HELL of an overclock. Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't know what "SP34 Cooling" is. Is that Phase-change? I.E. refridgerated cooling? 😕

I would be very curious to pit this monster P4 against two mild-mannered, non-overclocked Opteron 248s. 😀 The money spent on CPUs + mobo is equal, I'd bet. AND the Opterons don't need Hydrogen-Phase-Coupled Mother of God Cooling. Just good old HSFs.

So that fact that he probably spent as much for his CPU and motherboard and cooling solution as I did in my dual 248's means nothing ? I am interested in bang for the buck at high end. I think my 2 248's can beat the one P4EE in an SMP aware application, or 2 instances (like F@H) can beat his one. There is something wrong with this ? Where does fanboy come in ? Care to back that up with some cash ? Like total F@H units in 24 hr ? my total 4.4 ghz will blast his 3.9 to bits in 24 hours....

I get more than 60FPS WITH 2 instances of F@H running. The game is capped at 60 FPS. So how does his rig kill me in Doom3 ? And why do I care when I can beat him in almost anything else ? Can we say fanboy ???

First, I got the 2x248's for many reasons, gaming was the least of that, since I also have a 3000+ at 3200+ speed. Second, my 5 disk raid 5 array kicks but in everything form level loading to multitasking. And when I bought my X800pro, it was the only thing IN STOCK. Shut the F!!! up or have some valid comments. You sound like a child.

My single Opteron can keep right up with his P4EE in games. The second is running F@H for a good cause. I spent a lot of money for this rig for several reasons, fun, a good cause, and yes, maybe bragging rights. And what wrong with that ? You just need to be realistic in your claims, and saying that a P4EE can stomp a pair of Opterons 248's even in a NON-SMP aware application is a little out of the realm of believeability.
 
acanthus, dont make the assumption that markfw900 has dual opterons for gaming only. he's smart enuff to know that a single fx is more then enuff. i think its really cool that he has a dually opteron setup, but deciding on what is a waste of money is very much based on opinions. also, bashing on someone for being able to afford a dually setup like mark's seriously means you cant afford something like that, in other words, jealousy. everyone has different interests. if i had $25,000 to spare, and i needed a car, i wouldnt go spend it on a car of that price tag. i'd rather get, say the scion tc for $9,000 cheaper and spend $5 grand on a comp. i dont see how that would be a waste of money since paying $9000 more for a car wouldnt get you anything more, perhaps 20 horsepower. and i seriously envy mark's setup.
 
Believe me, its not jealousy, if i won the lottory today, i would not have dual anything, except maybe geforce 6800s, which would benefit gaming, the primary use of his machine.

Please check the distributes computing statistics. I started doing F@H when I got this dually 3 weeks ago, and I am now in 43rd place for Team Anandtech, I really do have other goals....

And I have worked for 30 years to get where I am today, I am proud of what I have done, and usually don;t like to brag, but sometimes the BS gets so thick, that I can't stand to listen to it.

Sorry. If the majority agrees with Acanthus, I will resign my Anandtech distributed projects as a "prima donna"....

OK, so I was a little ticked, since I was just playing with the OP about his waste of money (IMO).

Then the real fanboys (or whatever their problem is) say that his rig will stomp tha "crap out of" mine, which is BS. Jeesh.... I give up kids. P4 rules....
