I would be very curious to pit this monster P4 against two mild-mannered, non-overclocked Opteron 248s. 😀 The money spent on CPUs + mobo is equal, I'd bet. AND the Opterons don't need Hydrogen-Phase-Coupled Mother of God Cooling. Just good old HSFs.

Oh and to everyone else - I buy and sell chips all the time when I get the opportunity. And I paid alot less then $900. 🙂 I bought the unlocked prescott here on AT and sold it for a tidy profit. Who knows how long Ill keep this bad boy, but I could make a small profit on it too 🙂 .. but thats not currently on the table (today).

What Id like to do is when a good LGA775 board comes out from MSI, I will get a 775 3.4EE (already available) and keep that alot longer or at least until I can get an unlocked one.

Sorry, I really can't see spending that much on a proc that is over-rated and runs so hot, but I do understand what toys are all about when you have the money to burn....

IMO, there nothing wrong with bragging about your P4 overclock; if it weren't for people like Felix who SHARE THEIR SECRETS and how the achieved what they did, many of us (me included) would be left to find out on our own. Felix does the work for us. 😉

Conversely, Mark's got a system that 99% of us can't afford. ANDDDDDDDD? So what? I'm jealous, sure. But you can bet that if I had that rig, I'd be bragging too. ANNNNNNNNDDD? So what? See my point, guys? 🙂

Thanks MichaelD for (as usual) taking everything in context, and in good spirit. Where this thread got out of line was the ridiculous posts of "you AMD fanboys" and "it will blow that Opteron system out of the water in Doom3" which just set me off, since it is the biggest BS I have seen in a while.

To the Op, I apoligise if you take any offense, as I was not trying to thread hijack, and your OC is great ! If you had said earlier on that you got it free (or almost) then that would have put my responses in an entirely different light. And if you would like me to run more Sandra benches I will, as I posted in your other thread. I am quite impressed that even with the Opterons integrated memory controller, you can actually top my memory scores (I only get 4700, you get 5150 OC'ed).
