well yea.. the point of ikea isnt' high end furniture, but decently engineered stuff for cheap. not everyone has bling bling😉
 
I have a chair and three of their tables. The tables are holding up really well. The chair was not designed that well. The cushion does not stay in play is not thick enough. I had to glue a couple of the chair's joints because it was falling apart.

agreed 100%, bought some of their stuff in DC like a table, couch and a few other items because it was cheap and man does it suck.....

Some stuff is is awful, but you can find lots of good stuff too. I think it's like any other store, hit or miss, but lately their grade of furniture has been improving.
 
I would have but I went to their store in Chicago and I thought their stuff was really cheapo crap. It looks nice from 20 feet, but when you get up close it looks really crappy IMHO. I don't see that stuff lasting at all. It's all cardboard, plastic and plywood.
 
Went there to get kitchen cabinets and counter for my last apartment and they completely screwed up my order. When my contractor assembled everything, all the dimensions the salespeople calculated were completely off. When I went back for a refund they refused to take the return because it was already assembled (WTF?).

Fast forward to now, I decided to give them another chance since I needed a kitchen dining set. I bought all the piece but one chair was bad so I try to get a new one. They are out of stock and they promise me they would call me when they come in. I wait and wait and call and call and visit but they never have any and they never call. Now they don't make that set anymore so I am stuck with an incomplete set. Grrrr... I hate Ikea!
 
I've never had a problem with anything from IKEA, although I've never made a major purchase there. Just a bookshelf and pantry for the kitchen. The panty is nice solid pine and should last (had it for about a year now).
The ones in Sweden are a lot better, albeit smaller.
 
I think we're getting one in Minnesota next to the Mega-Mall. Not 100% sure yet. I haven't seen 'em break any ground yet.

But I'll certainly shop there if it opens. I'm no fan of laminated pressboard, but anything they have that's not made entirely out of that crap is fair game if I have room for it.
 
Most of my house was furnished by IKEA. Although the sofas are pretty bad (but we didn't really have much money), beds were going strong ... until my dog ate (destroyed) two of them.
 
We bought a bunch of Ikea stuff when we moved to NJ when my daughter was a baby - that's 18 years ago. A lot of it we still have, still good. The stuff in the stores isn't anything like it used to be - not as well made, not as much real wood. Well, some of the bookcases are the same.

We've been hanging out at the restaurant lately, they have a "family meal" special where you get two adult meals and a bunch of kid meals for $10, total. Can't beat that. I don't remember that from any other Ikea, might be just because this is one of the newer ones?

Okay furniture and stuff... what's so great about it? I find most of my furniture behind office buildings 🙂

there is a free bus that goes there from the city

i like IKEA because it is decent stuff at a really reasonable price (we bought some stuff there when living in NYC)
now the truth is that if your budget is not that limitied, i'd rather shop somewhere else
