**Update**

They dropped the weight limit from 130 to 120. Coach says he did it to put less of a strain on male cheerleaders who have to lift them. Activists say it promotes eating disorders.

Saw on Headline News just now.

I don't know about you, but I don't think that 120 lbs is in the "eating disorder" category. Try 90 lbs!!:p

Why not just get some 250+ pound girls and have them throw the guys in the air?

what is worse? 130+ lb girls, or male cheerleaders? :p

Anyways, i think they are trying to get rid of fat cheerleaders, but i cant say i disagree. Its not a plesant experience to watch one dance around.

Sounds reasonable...

Maybe they could let the heavier girls on the squad to be on the bottom like the guys...

Agreed.

130lbs is a little beefy for a woman and for a cheerleader that itself seems on the high side.

That's freakin' stupid. So, regardless of height she must be 130 Lbs?

I figured they wouldn't take me anyway 'cuz I would be too tall by their standard (6' 1" here). But I sure am just 5 lbs above their limit and I'm not at all heavy for them to lift. My sis who's 30 Lbs above me lifts me well enough, so I'm sure a guy can.

I never really liked cheerleading anyway and was not attracted to the activity Really!

Some of the most attractive women I've ever known(and seen naked) weighed 135 pounds.

Oh well, not their loss. Cheerleading is a joke. Any school with a well organized pom pon sqaud gets the best looking girls anyway.

I dont think they are talking about looks. A woman can be but ugly and thin at the same time. But to literally throw someone in the air I can see why they dropped the weight limit.

Many schools won't even let cheerleaders do tosses any more. Too many drops and injuries.

10lbs difference isn't that much. If the guys are in the cheerleading squad I'd expect them to be able to lift a person of that weight fairely easily. its not as if he has to lift hiw own body weight up like that. Sure you can complain if he has to lift like 160lbs in to the air. That would be a bit much for some of the guys if they have to lower the weight to 140lbs to 130lbs. In my opinion the weight doesn't matter 'that' much. If it becomes dangerous because of the weight issure then I can see why.......

I'm 90 pounds and stand at almost 5'4. I've never had a eating disorder in my life, and am perfectly healthy as well, probably healthier then most people at that.
I've even gone so far as to seeing a nutritionist regarding my health. I eat healthy , drink healthy, and live healthy, and I find most people who do all of these things are quite skinny. Now you might get this image of some skeletal figure when you think of that, but I am far from that, I dont look sickly or skinny to the point I look starved, yet I'm still 90 pounds.
You can have a eating disorder at any weight, some people are naturally skinny with a high metabolism, and some people get there a healthy way (eating right, exercising).
Anyhow catagorizing weight range with eating disorders as you did in your last sentence, is far to much of a overgeneralization, and quite ignorant one at that. By those presumed standards I have a eating disorder, which is not true. I hope no one out there really assumes just by looking at a person, perhaps based on weight, that they must have a eating disorder.

130 isn't eating disorder. It's 0% overweight, but it's not necessarily underweight at all. 130 is still quite a bit for a guy to lift - 140 is not that fun, especially in younger guys who are not too muscular, so it makes some sense to me.

That last comment was made in jest, hence the smilie face. Do you think I go around asking people how much they weigh? I just threw 90 lbs out there. If you have a problem with that, take it up with my lawyer;)

I hear you! I am 6'2 138lbs, I do have skinny little calves but other than that I look a solid 170. Whenever I go to the doctor they are shocked. I am not really sure why I am so light but perhaps I have low bone density or something who knows (well I am 3% body fat)

Flat, you got a new girl friend? The last time I read your post about a gf, you said she had just jilted ya or something like that. And you spoke of how you always got emotional around her 'cuz you could not help it. So, you got a new one, if you don't mind me asking?

NFS4, with all due respect, that's bull. It all depends on the woman's/girl's height. I know some girls who 90 Lbs fits perfectly well. I'm 135 Lbs at 6' 1" and people think I'm this skeletal thing before they see me. Yes, on my upper body, you can see traces of my skeleton around my ribs. I'm bony with so little fat. Yet, I have a nice a$$ and body overall. But this is not so 'cuz I starve myself. It's simply 'cuz I have a high metabolism and I'm naturally lanky. Sometimes I eat like hell . . . and I'll eat anytime in the night, any crap I can get if I'm terribly hungry. As stated by Linia, some people are naturally skinny and have a high metabolism, whilst some work hard to maintain their weight by eating healthy and exercising! :D
