what would you all say is the lowest power drawing cpu equal to xp2000 or faster that is skt462, 754 or 939? if they draw that much less, i could always build a new server and it would literally pay for itself...

939 Venice A64s have very low power usage. (Compared to the XP's)

what about compared to xp-ms?

I think the XP-Ms would have a decently lower power usage than the 939s. I guess it would also be better to keep the same mobo also. Go for an XP-m. (But then again, XP-ms can OC like crazy, but that would ruin the power reduction)

a pentium m in a socket converter, obviously.

edit: wait, is 462 socket a or an intel socket? i always forget these things

462 is socket A

The Intel socket is 478.

they also had some skt 423 p4s...don't know what they were used for and never have seen one but they are on the intel spec finder site...

The Skt. 423s are old Willamette cores which must use RDRAM. Its an inferior and dead platform.

just run it stock....maybe i will look into one of the 35W xp2400m. is that 35W at full 100% utilization?

Select a CPU for power consumption/requirements.

BTW, Seti's pretty much been about the competition for me. When Classic is done, I'll probably move to F@H, though. I'll take my 60 or so computers into a Folding machine, instead of a Seti one. 🙂 (currently the 2nd highest producer on the team, top 5 on the team, and ranked 295 out of over 5.4 Million other crunchers....sad part? I've only really been crunching again for the past year and a half...wonder where I'd be had I been crunching full time from when I created my account).

Oh, and for the dude in Phoenix and SRP bills...you guys still pay a TON less than we do (California). SRP is fair compared to SDG&E. My power bill is a freakin joke.

I tried, but it seemed too hard to get started and even when people tried to help no one seemed to be interested in the project I was doing.

i live in PHX, but don't have SRP...if you are referring to me... i have APS which is a lot more than SRP 🙁

Im not sure. I think that is the TDP, and may not be entirely accurate, but you will notice power savings. (The desktop board may not give low enough volts for it to reach the 35W mark though)

Which project were you trying?

I saw when you posted your herd Ronin. You could make quite a dent in any project. 🙂 (Especially compared to my measly 3 computers on for ~12 hours a day)

I love the useful posts... Well, it is OT. And you should see the 700-post nef thread that was left alone (for a while) in the DC forum.

Anyway, FrankyJunior, check out the TA SETI page I linked to before, you are still 56th out of the team.

Ah, but any effort helps. Everyone is part of the team, and no one person is more important than another. The fact that you're even crunching (no matter what project is for), is enough. 🙂

Thanks!

Bump for any of you who have answered questions in this thread.

Should be fixed now. They had some power problems, I believe, but the pipes should be clean now.

Weird... What does your projects tab say? Have you tried joining another project to see if that works?

A thread in the DC category may get you more help, as I have never run SETI myself.

Thanks for joining the TeAm, KarenMarie! 😀
