Thats because DC interests very few of us.

AND out of 120,000 registered members, only about 600 log on each day.
Most of the rest logged on once or twice and gave up after seeing P&N.

When I first started viewing the forums (strictly as a lurker) I was amazed that DC had its own catergory. And it wasnt really that popular anyway. Kind of odd. I thougt it shoud be with the Software threads.

I need my CPU cycles for porn and illegal file-swapping.

123,389 users. Only 710 logged on. Now lets look at the Somethingawful forums. 64,120 users with 4,065 logged in. Thats not including the people that don't have accounts there. I wonder how many "actual users" Anandtech actually has.

Don't you have to pay for SA's forums? That might be why.. :p

like i said, i am guilty too, but am changing that.

i will just have f@h work when my computer is on the screen saver, which will help out a bit because i leave my main computer on ~18hrs/day and i surely don't use it that much.

AT forum members have an average of 3.54 accounts per each actual live person.
Also 80% of them are on ATOT and just nef.

100% of the stats I just provided are fictional.

Whats are you getting at? The way I figure it, the pay site should have less users.

my husband joined AT in 2000 for distributed computing. he was obsessed with it until we got married -- he had 4 or 5 machines hooked up running SETI (he's still in the top 100 on team anandtech). still, it bothers the hell out of me that distributed computing is like a huge challenge for everyone involved -- "i must keep my number of cycles going up steadily so i can reach the top!"

most folks who visit OT are more laid back, relaxing, causing trouble, or whatnot. it's not really within most of these guys to run a program that will utilize idle processes to find life on planet jupiter or to find a cure for cancer of the hair. as it is, two of my husband's 3 machines continuously crash because of SETI, so he's since stopped being so competitive, although he still runs it on those boxes.

The pay site DOES have less users. But more log on because they are paying for it. So they wanna get their monies worth.

I have at least 5 computers that are sitting idle but turned off. I'd help out but I have to pay the electricity for our apartment and I'm a poor college student. Maybe someday when I get a real job.

Well I guess active users would be a better phrase. Anandtech does not even have 1-120th of its users active at any one time.
