I'd rather have 1 screen with photo realistic graphics rather than 12 playing games that look the same as they did... 4 years ago.

You don't know what you're talking about. I've a 5970 sitting next to me, and three 1920x1080's in front of me...

Modern Warfare 2 isn't 2 years old. Bad Company 2 isn't 2 years old. Far Cry 2 is but it's DX10. DiRT 2 isn't 2 years old nor DX9. Just Cause 2, ouch, need to turn the settings down to medium, but still not 2 years old or DX9. Call of Pripyat, can't run uber high settings, but sure does look good...

I think that covers it, right? It is offtopic though, because a 5970 won't comfortably run 6 screens, let alone 12...

Modern Warfare 2's tech is way more than 2 years old and it's designed for consoles. Thanks for proving my point, none of those games are remotely stressful or advanced, (except of course the ones that you admittedly have to turn down the settings on) and I call shenanigans if you're trying to pretend that your 5970 powers BFBC2 maxed 60fps at eyefinity resolutions. In fact, you don't bother to mention your framerates at all. It's pretty bad if right after you buy hardware, settings already have to be dropped and framerates are less than perfect. A 5970 can't even run Dirt 2 maxed at a constant 60 fps.

Nice looking game but it's not exactly taxing. How's performance in Crysis maxed and GTA IV maxed? It will be hard to get even a year of use before having to upgrade graphics cards.

He said playable, and I consider getting constantly over 30 fps very playable.
You don't need constant 60 fps, and in the modern stressful games you simply aren't going to get it even with only one monitor unless you go SLI or crossfire. Metro 2033 at very high brings even a GTX 480 to 45 average and that's at 1280 x 1024 (check guru review which if biased is in favor of the 480).

The reason people use eyefinity or 3d is there's really no benefit to having 100+ fps beyond bragging rights.

I personally prefer 45+ frame rates. On most games, it feels a little choppy to me at less than 45. Still playable for sure at less than 45, but I can visually notice the chop. From 45 to 60 I can if I really focus on trying to notice some chop. Over 60+ it is smooth as silk. Many game genres, such as RTS, are still playable at 20+ fps.

But playable versus good gaming experience is a worthwhile consideration. While I could play something at 20-30 fps, it's not nearly as enjoyable. I know because I've done it in the past.

So while I look to get 60+ FPS in game I play, I can live with down to 45 fps.

Bad company 2 at max settings at 5760x1200 doing 57.2FPS

Widescreen gaming benched with 9.12 drivers that are confirmed to be slower than the newer drivers.

No AA and HBAO off...ie middling settings. Turn HBAO on and give it a reasonable (but not extreme) amount of AA like 4x MSAA and those framerates will cut in half...actually the review says it's "unplayable" with even 2x AA on a 5970. Even at those settings, the graph is ugly...that's not a "smooth" 57fps by any means. And that's single player...multiplayer gets even worse from my experience and you're handicapping yourself anytime you drop below 60fps and just begging to be pwn3d. And therein lies the eyefinity experience: compromising on settings and pretending the game is "maxed" even though the stressful effects have to be turned off. I could be down for it if it let you go PLP since you could use a 30 flanked by 20s and it wouldn't be a huge loss in games where the side monitors need to be turned off.
