Look at the right side of amazon.com's home page, you'll see a "Holiday Delight-O-Meter" under it will be the # of packages ordered from amazon.com!

It's probably just doing something like:
Units = 12000000 + ((time1 - time2)* 100) + random(1,99)

I really doubt they sold that many, and even so, I doubt it's updating it using real statistics.

It should be relatively easy for them to implement something like that, actually.

You hope they will be doing better soon?? 12 million orders in less than a month?? I call that moola.

And those of you who say that may not be an accurate number, 12 million on average is a freaking lot, because even if that number is incorrect, I doubt it varies more than 100,000 orders.

They are still losing money. No matter how much stuff they sell, they will always be at a loss.

<< Why would they put up something fake? What would they get out of it? >>

So they could get a shameless plug from a little kid on the well-known anandtech forums.:)

EDIT: Forgot to add a little kid who will post anything and everything.:)

Why be in business if you are losing money?? They have to be making money somewhere. If you can prove me wrong, I'll claim you to be the god of pokebean or balls or whatever the hell it is you talk about all the time.

It's not like they need a plug ;) They get more than enough hits and I'm damn well sure that everyone on these forums already knows about 'em, it's not like the people here are gonna visit it just 'cause of this. They would go there one way or another :p

TheDennis:
I'm sure they do get 100 hits a second, they are a huge site. I believe they are the #2 hit site on the internet. And remember, those 100 people could each order like 1-9999 things
:)

They sell things for so cheap that they lose money on every purchase. But (and no offense to you in particular) it's bonehead consumers who go to their site and say Wow! 12,000,000 items in less than a month! Let me invest in Amazon.com!. So Amazon's stock keeps going up and up and up. And as long as they keep selling things, it will continue to do that. And as long as they continue to price products where they are actually losing money on every sale, people will keep buying from them. And Consumer-Day-Trader-Types will still invest in them. See? Quite a nasty cycle.

So two birds in one stone, I guess...josh, there's a reason they would fake it.

Charlie

Now will you name me the god of balls? Err...
