It's not even showing its out for delivery for tommorow I live 15mins from the damn place and its taking 3 days to get to me.

hey at least you got tracking number...i ordered mine yesterday at 7 am and still show it as open...no tracking number no nothing, im in calif too

Came home and found fedex package at my front door.
Inspected all the parts and everything looks brand new other than sticker outside the box stating it's reconditioned.
Also realized I don't have firewire port on any of my computers...

Well, Apple missed my ship date of 10/1 (ordered on 9/30) but were kind enough to credit me 33 bucks. I'm now supposed to ship on 10/6, but when I mentioned I was paranoid that my order would be overlooked again, (I mentioned that people had ordered later and recieved or had theirs shipped already) I was told I'd be upgraded if it missed this ship date.

All in all, things look good.

WEll , back from work. Ran to fedex and picked it up. Everything is in perfect condition and came in orginal IPod box.
Now to hook it up and play with it.

Took a little bit, but there we go... so far... Me Like...

grr my fedex status shwos it was scanned at fedex sort facility 3:53am (yestarday) and no updates since..

i'm really tempted to get one of these because of how great you people are saying it is. hows it compare to the other portable mp3/hard drive players. don't really know much about them at all. is the interface easy to use

Personal opinions: The interface is not bad, I havn't used the other ones (i.e. nomad/rio..etc), so I can't compare. You basically use the wheel to scroll through the menu. Center of the wheel is select, and use Menu button (right above the wheel to go back/up 1 level in the menu tree. I got the 2nd gen, so the buttons are "moving parts", you have to put a bit of pressure to actually press the button. I played with a 3rd gen a little bit in the store, it is definitely better. I got the 10GB, it feels VERY small. Does fit into shirt pocket nicely (but just a bit heavy to drag your shirt down. Looks VERY VERY VERY slick/sweet. The earbuds are just like what everyone else described, lacks oomph/bass/boom. I did what alot of Windows users did, not install the software at all, and just went for ephpod. It crashed a couple of times on my Win2k machine, but over all very smooth (use Sync Folder button to make life easy). FireWire transfer is pretty fast. I spend most of my time just ripping CDs though. My ears can't tell 96kbps and 256kbps apart, so I am ripping my CDs with RealOne player now. Over all, I am very happy with iPod. :) :cool: :D

I think at $165, it's a pretty good deal. Most of the memory card based 128MB/256MB are about this price. I havn't used Zen, so I don't know if it's as elegant. But seeing iPod/Zen in the store, iPod is definitely smaller/slicker. During my research, I've read more about Zen breaking than iPod breaking. iPod's weakness is probably the battery, not easily replaceable, and really expansive to get Apple to service it. If both last same length of time before they break, Zen beats Apple on the price/storage size. But Apple definitely wins on the elegance/design.

Can anyone reccomend a good firewire card for the pc?

Oh, hmm, it's 8am. What the heck do I need an iPod for? My car dosen't even have a tape deck or aux in.

Calling to cancel the order in an hour as soon as the Apple support team gets there.

I just got my order in and ordered the $13(+$5 ship) Koutech firewire card from Newegg. In the customer reviews for the card they said it worked fine with their iPod. I'm figuring worst case I'll hafta go pick up a SIIG firewire card if there's something wrong with this one... heh... woohoo!

UPDATE: Loaded on a little bit of music (about a gig and a half) and tested it out. Yea, the earbuds they give dont have too much bass to them, but they work. I hooked it up in my car today via the tape adaptor (sold seperately) and wow.... so much better than using my rio 500.
Just put the pod in my case on the dash and used the remote to work it.... very simple.

Brought it to work and everyone that saw it was like ... hey, that's cool, what is it?
Got 2 co-workers looking at getting one now.

I called to cancel my order.. what do I get.. "I'm sorry, your order is already being shipped. We can't cancel it."

That's a load of BS. There is no way that I ordered it at 7am and it is already getting shipped by 9am. From what I am reading here and hearing from other people who ordered theirs it is going to get pushed back quite a few weeks. Heck, the order status page says "Open" and says it might not ship till the 10th.

Now I have to wait for it to get here and send the damn thing back.

Heh. I'm calling them right now to see about an upgrade.

EDIT: Hm, they shipped it. I was actually going to buy the 20 gig as well.
