Buy it, forget it, no questions asked. WTF are you hesitating on a ipod for?
My sentiments exactly. If you really want a great hard drive mp3 player that does more than just play mp3s, this is a no-brainer. These IPods are absolutely sweet!

Yeah, but it's not the latest model.

Not as much stuff will be released for it anymore.

yea, but there is still a lot out for it right now. I am still surprised how fast they got it out to me. Next day actually meant next day!

I decided to order another one, ordered on the 10/01 and it shipped the same day, free ground shipping and I received it today, 10/3. My first order was for a 10gb Mac version and it was flawless. This order was for a 10gb Windows version and it also came flawless in a retail box. I did notice that I got an Apple 4pin to 6pin firewire adapter with the Windows version that I didn't get with the Mac version.

I wanted one and they were sold out of refurbs so I drove out of state just to go to the apple store and spent $400 on a new 20 gig. Its the sweetest "gadget" I've ever owned and smokes the archos jukebox I had a while back. For $169, just buy it, if you even think you might have a use for portable music, you'll love the ipod. Its just so slick to use.

order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it order it

:D

"Well, Apple missed my ship date of 10/1 (ordered on 9/30) but were kind enough to credit me 33 bucks."

what do you mean, they shipped it late so they credited you $33? Did you have upgraded shipping or something?
I ordered mine on 9/24 and it won't arrive till 10/6. 12 days to ship a freaking box.

Thanks.

Well, when I talked to their CSR and asked why they are selling so many she said they were just trying to get rid of the old stock to make more room for the new ones..

Hmm.. makes me wonder if some of them are actually new!

I wouldn't doubt if some were new. Some could be returned stock from stores that didn't selll prior to releasing the new versions. Also, Apple selling them direct to us at refurb prices probably still gets them the same amount of money that they would get from selling them wholesale to dealers. They cut out the middle man and passed the savings along. I'm sure some are repairs, but they sure do seem to have a lot of them and I really hope that iPods don't break that easily.

When were you originally promised shipping? I order on 9/30 and it read "Ships on or by 10/1," so when they missed the date I called up to ask why. The manager said he does not have any connection to the warehouse, since the warehouse is in Cali and customer service is in Texas, but that he would wave the shipping, and in light of the fact that people who ordered later got it earlier, he would wave 20 bucks.

Can the Windows ones actually do anything besides play mp3s?

The Mac ones with OS X seem SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more powerful!

Can a PC one hook up to a Mac running OS X to get any of the cool aps?

Ephpod lets you do a ton on Win. The down side to windows is no iTune support (yet).

"The Mac ones with OS X seem SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more powerful!"

what have you heard that is SOOOOOOOO powerful for mac ipods?

Ephpod does almost everything iTunes does, except for the ripping.

iTunes for Windows is coming out soon enough as well.
