58 if I counted right.

Agreed a lot of them are asiany (who eats wasabi peas other than Japanese people?) but a lot of them are American or French too, so I think it's trying to get a mix of different styles.

Truthfully I'd try most of the stuff on that list, but I wouldn't have a clue where to get half of those things. When trying new food I find its always safest to have it at a restaurant with someone familiar so you know you're actually getting what it's suppose to be like or not.

Anyone ever try truffles?
I saw the news segment on them the other day.

Durian is quite an interesting fruit. While I wouldn't say I found it particularly enjoyable, it is something I am glad I have tried.

Durian, I used to have to run away when my parents would bring them out..uugghhh. Supposedly, if you can get past the smell, it's really really good. I can't get past that smell, and we eat alot of smelly food in my household, like fish sauces.. many variety of that to. It's an odd kind of stank though. I can't stand it.

What an odd mix of foods to list.

I have a few food policies I "generally" follow. No fish, no fungus and generally, if someone tells me it tastes like chicken, I'll stick to chicken. I'm not a fan of organ meat either, though I have eaten it.

Still, a quick count of the list puts me at 55, but I have had the opportunity to try about another 25 that I will just never eat. For example, I've had a bag of pan fried crickets and grasshoppers offered to me, and I passed. I had a friend that repeatedly tried to get me to eat haggis... No thank you. That said, I've always been willing to try foods from different cultures.

Given the nature of the list, I nominate a few other foods to throw on there!
Poutine
Fluffernutter sandwiches
Moxie
Corn Chowder
Vegemite
Tourtière

Kangaroo is actually quite good. I would gladly order it again given the opportunity.

As for Durian yes it did smell bad, and as a generic white American it was also odd purchasing it, the store owner kept confirming my desire to purchase it. The taste is something like a cross between caramel and honeydew melon with the consistency of runny scrambled eggs. Not completely unpleasant, but as soon as you unplug your nostrils and let a bit of the smell in, things change. The smell is something of a cross between manure and rotting onions and you can certainly taste that after the vaguely sweet fruit moves back in your mouth.

I'd also add miracle fruit to this list, not for the actual fruit but for the following flavor trip, sucking on a lemon has never been so good.
