6.2 miles on a mountain bike course. Those guys made a crazy trail, tons of choppy climbing and hopping.

I got as low as a 7:05 and am hoping that maybe a light pair of shoes will help me get a few seconds faster. Anyone here use lightweight shoes?

Has anyone here run a Tri?

Racing shoes are nice - I can definitely feel the difference in a lighter pair of shoes. As for the tri, I did one last year, but it was part of a relay team, so I only did the run part. I felt kind of bad blowing by all the non-relay runners, who already had a 1.2 mile swim and 56 miles on the bike in their legs before they hit the half marathon loop! :D

Ran the final 18 miles of Boston Marathon course in costume - http://www.boston.com/news/local/ma...on-marathon/hnS1XZ2AYC2byYctZ9QkML/story.html

I ran with a robe, cape, sword and this on my head.

Couldn't run faster than a 8 minute/mile pace or the helmet would start sliding off.

That is awesome! I want to do a costume run one of these days!

+26 over the weekend

I did another 9mile run on Sunday. I'm glad I did. Another snow storm was forecast for this morning, so I got called in at midnight Sunday night. We missed the brunt of the storm, but the frigid temps have me going back in at 4am on Tuesday. I guess I'm going to miss another morning run tomorrow (I'm not running at 2:30am, before a 12 hour shift and after a 16 hour shift. Nuh-uh). That 9 miler will help me keep my MPW up.

As for last week, I did a little over 20.5. I rounded up to a conservative 21 with all the walking I did.

Thanks for the reply about the lightweight running shoes. I appreciate the information about the tri, but since you "only" did the running part, I'm not sure how helpful it is.

Does anyone else use lightweight running shoes? Anyone else ever run a tri? Since the run is only a 5k and the biking 9miles, I'm assuming the swim is probably going to take 25 - 35 minutes also. Am I right to assume that they try to make each leg take the same amount of time?

BTW: Great job for the Boston Memorial run. I need to decide on a run-friendly costume myself. Around here, they do a 'Owl Prowl' around Halloween. I don't want to sound like a douche, but if you weren't running faster than 8 MM, and you caught up to the lead pack at mile 7 after a 10 minute starting delay, I have to ask: Was that a 'fun run' or a 'race'? I didn't see it mentioned in the article. 18 miles must be an awesome run!

5 miles tonight.

I have also been thinking about doing one of those mini-tri races sometime soon. I am a better swimmer than a runner, but I would have to get over my fear of getting on a bike again if I wanted to do any serious training for it. Sounds like a blast though!

8 miles yesterday. Was supposed to ride in a 6 hour mountain bike endurance, but it got postponed due to wet trails.
