20 miles today. Did 18 with my friend Trish at about 7:30 pace and then did the last 2 on my own in 6:15 and 6:13. Felt good! Definitely a confidence booster going into Boston.

Today was an off day for me, but it was so nice here in CT that I couldn't pass up an opportunity, so I added a quick 3.

+8.4 today (I'm going to round up because I rounded down last time)... managed 6 7-min miles yesterday and averaged 7:30 pace today.

Scorch! That's great to have that speed at the 20-mile mark. When's Boston?

Mr. Buddha, what kind of orthotics do you use, and why?

22 miles last week but I borked my ankle on the long Sunday run. It's been too sore to run at all this week but I hope it's better on time for my 30k race next Sunday :/ Will have to do some biking this week to keep from getting too fat and lazy.

(No, I didn't run 5,022 miles, but I don't think Scorch ran 4,980 backwards either 😉)

My boy and I did a sweet 10 miler on our trails today. My ankle and groin felt way better, I wore my infrequently used road runners.... I think my Wave Ascends are wore out. Bummer, I love those shoes, but I can now justify the Wave Cabrakans.

+9 last week

Attempted to run a feeble 5 mile lake but gave up @ 3 miles. Don't know why. Maybe the drinking the night before. 😀 Going again this Saturday to dominate it with some water and without a hangover this time.

KlokWyze, sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you. Looks like you were lunch yesterday, but you'll get it next time.

+3 yesterday. I'd been having ankle issues for the past couple of weeks, but this weekend it was feeling ok again.

Mr. Buddha, what kind of orthotics do you use, and why?

I have a high arch and am slightly bow-legged. Before I had orthotics, I had problems with achilles tendinitis, stress fractures, etc. I ran in minimal, neutral shoes and was doing lots of stretching, weight lifting, etc.

I'm just not biomechanically perfect. I used to run around barefoot on the grass in summer as a kid, but I guess when you actually start to log mileage, and do dedicated running, problems start to show up. When your feet are even slightly "out of line", they can cause cascading effects all throughout your legs as your body tries to compensate.

I'm now on my third pair of orthotics (they last 4-5 years), and each time I've been analysed by a professional pedorthist.

My current pair have a 3/4 length hard plastic shell to support my arch, metatarsal pad up front for the ball of my foot, raised heel to support my achilles, and a full-length neoprene topcover.

Of course orthotics don't replace proper stretching and strengthening exercises (and I do a lot of those), but when those aren't enough, sometimes you need orthotics. I sometimes wonder if I'd be biomechanically perfect if I'd grown up in an African village, never having worn shoes.

Haven't posted here in two months 🙁 Of course, I've been oft injured the past two months with IT band (majority) and Achilles issues, but have paced two friends in half marathons, done a few 15 milers, a 20 miler this weekend, and some other light mileage here and there. Few calculations puts me around 120 miles, which is paltry for two months of off and on running. Currently shooting for the OKC full in April.

Welcome back RB. How's the ITB coming? I thought I was having similar issues but it went away in a few days. Seems my trusty Mizuno Wave Ascends are worn out.

My eldest and I did a different kind of run today. 6.x miles on a smooth trail. 3.x out and then back to the car. We did the 3.x out in 20 minutes and then cooled down with a nice trot back to the car. The sprint out was all slightly uphill so it was a real workout, completely badass. We're going to incorporate this workout into our weekly routines.

did about 11 miles yesterday in two runs and 9 miles today after officially becoming an employee of a local running store! My first day is on Saturday! Should be a lot of fun!

Lucky you on yours. It's much better...been seeing a sports chiro who has been doing a few things on it...whatever the hell he's doing is kicking ass. Knocked out 20 on Saturday...guess those 4 hours on the stairmaster in the gym have kept my cardio up pretty well. 🙂 What's your next race?

did 3 miles today, just started running again. funny cause i work for a health and fitness company and we build treadmills.

Next race is Medved Madness, a 15 mile trail race, on May 2. Then there's the Sehgahunda Trail Marathon on May 29. This is an inaugural running so it's gonna be cool to be a part of that one. I've got lots planned for this year, lots to train for.

Welcome back RB!

I did 10 miles last night after 4 days off. I'm mostly over this friggin' sinus thing - just a bit of lingering congestion. Really couldn't afford any more time off without screwing up my training though.

A bit over 6k today and thankfully my ankle seems to have recovered. But I'll add that with the total at the end of the week...

15 miles last night. Almost healthy. Quads were a bit tight and heavy but they loosened up 30 min in. I actually managed to knock 4 minutes off the time I usually run for that route and I didn't feel like I pushed particularly hard 😱. A bit of rest does wonders.
