ran 5 miles with Dave, took my shirt off, and ran another 5 miles on my own. found an orange bouncy ball and got told by several people that was crazy. Whoo!

8 miles in shorts and a tank top. And it's still officially winter... The most noteworthy part of today's run is that my younger son cranked out 8 with me tonight. He did 6 yesterday, too. He has not been a runner in the past. This is his third official run. How???

Nice Mega, sounds like you have a genetic predisposition for running! Way to pass on the genes! I did 10 miles on some new territory with my former college coach. He lives in the city so I was afraid the run was going to suck but he knew some sweet trails and we ran through the cemetery where Susan B Anthony and Frederick Douglas are buried and saw their gravestones which was pretty neat. He gave me a certificate for a free pair of Sauconies that I won last week; unfortunately it's for the Guides and I don't wear stability shoes.

Cranked out some intervals on the track last night. All kinds of ugly, but I got them done.

5x1200m, 2.5min recovery (3:52, 3:53, 3:55, 3:58, 4:01), 2 mile warmup, 6 mile cooldown. +12

Ick, those don't sound fun at all, IB! Nice times though! Hell of a workout!

I did 3 miles this morning, then 5 miles barefoot this evening on grass with 4x 100m strides after. Man I love running barefoot, but it always feel so weird when I put my shoes back on to run back to the apartment. It's like I lost my connection with the ground. I'm gonna call it 8 miles for the day.

Scorch - roughly how much of your running is barefoot these days? How long have you been doing it and how did you find the adjustment? I've really only done a few short runs on the beach barefoot. Where I live right now there is too much pavement and gravel, but it's an intriguing concept.

6 miles for me tonight.

6 miles on the trail today. I had all 3 of my kids with me as well as my daughter's boyfriend. They all did 4, my eldest and I took off like bats out of hell. It was great. 🙂

Not that much, and this was my first barefoot run since September or October probably. When the weather is nice and I'm in shape though, I will run barefoot 2-3 times a week, 4-6 miles each time. So anywhere from 8-18 miles a week. I've done it for a few years now, although I always did striders barefoot when I was in college. I'm very efficient biomechanically so I just ran a few miles barefoot one day, and then a few days later, and just kept that up whenever I was able to. I can definitely feel the effects from yesterday today, though. My arches and calves are sore, as are all the little stabilizer muscles in my legs. Can't wait to be doing that nearly every other day and strengthen those muscles up!

I did 7 miles today and it was not fun. I definitely like 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag, from the aforementioned barefoot running and striders, and also because I celebrated St Patty's day last night with a lot of beer and an Irish car bomb. Good times though!

Mega, I run around a soccer field behind a middle school that is half a mile from my apartment. I wear some old shoes over there, kick them off, and run around the fields (the loop is about half a mile) and then run back with my shoes on. Any type of athletic field tends to work well as they are usually pretty well maintained.

I did 8.4 miles today. Took a two-hour nap before this run and I think it helped a lot. Took it pretty easy and just enjoyed being out there. Found a big red plastic-covered spring and a binder with a guy's Ford truck info in it while running. Of course I picked them up and brought them home. Ended the week with 69.1 miles. Another attempt at 70 miles thwarted by poor arithmetic. I rounded down a few runs this week so I'm going to round this up to 9.

Bother, the snow is back again. 🙁 My crocuses were out last week, but now they're snowed in again!

Earlier this week:

Anyway, I tried some new shoes this week but halfway through the first run I gave up on 'em and walked it in - there's a big lump right behind the balls of my feet. I think they're too big. So, that's +13 miles this week (I think I already counted last Sunday's).

That's cool Scorch. It must be nice to be biomechanically efficient - I need my orthotics unfortunately. Although who knows, maybe I'll try some beach runs in the summer.

I've been off since Friday - I got over my cold and then picked up some nasty sinus infection which has left me congested and tired. Just trying to rest up, kill it with meds and hopefully be back sometime this week.
