Not really; I just do all this for fun 😉.

Yep - Vancouver Marathon on May 2. It'll be my 3rd marathon and I'm looking for a PR.

When do you race next?

I'm working on the Riverbank Run 25K May 8th, then the Grand Island trail marathon Aug 1 (both in Michigan) - my second marathon and 25K.

You're putting in some serious miles! What are you aiming for PR-wise?

Sounds fun. I've enjoyed doing trail races but a trail marathon sounds like quite a grind (I know Megatomic is probably laughing at me for saying that haha).

My "A" goal is to join the 6-minute club, and run 2:37; my "B" goal is to crack 2:40. I ran 2:44 in October with less mileage, so I think I should have enough endurance this time around.

8.5 miles on Saturday (rounded down on Tuesday so will round up this time), 6 miles on Sunday, and 14 miles today. Felt tired all day so I wasn't sure how it would go, especially since I had planned to do this yesterday but just wasn't feeling it. It was cold and very very windy when I started, and was snowing quite heavily. The wind whipped the snow all over me so I was covered with a layer of white about an inch thick and I couldn't feel my face. This lasted for about 6 miles, then the wind died down and it became quite pleasant actually! There was a layer of snow on the ground just thick enough to provide traction; it was the kind of snow that squeaks and crunches underfoot. The flakes in the air and the low-hanging clouds reflected the lights from the city so the whole area was awash in a diffuse orange glow. I stopped to pee twice, and noticed after the second time that my leg hairs had little clumps of snow on them and I could feel them bouncing with every stride. I started to feel really good about 7 or 8 miles in and was rolling for most of the second half of the run. I actually felt like I'm getting back in shape for a little bit!!

I saw the forecast this morning and got myself out for a run at about noon because of it. And I'm glad I did 🙂

I think that's about the funniest thing I've ever heard anybody enjoy about running 😛 Sounds awesome, I almost want to go running in shorts to try it...

My boy and I just got back from the toughest 6 mile trail run we've done in a LONG time. The trail was icy and uneven, the whole way was tough. The normally non technical trail was extremely technical. My knees and balls took a beating. But it was super nice out, the temp. was 40 degrees and there was no rain or snow falling.

7 miles today. Ran with the Fleet Feet running group at Cobb's hill. Took it real easy as my quads are beat up from yesterday. I tried to give every person I saw a random compliment just to see how they reacted. Two or three people ignored me but most seemed quite tickled by the fact that I liked their blinky lights or their choice in reflective apparel.

How much slower on average would a trail run be compared to a road run?
It really depends on how technical (tough) the trail in question is. I've done some trail runs at my road pace, others seem like a crawl. But you can estimate about 10% - 20% longer on a moderate trail.

Grand Island marathon... I know there is a stretch of running on the beach and some good hills. I'm going to still try to beat my first marathon time!

Sehgahunda is in New York? That's a good 10hr drive for me. 🙁 Plus I'm shooting for a marathon in August and I won't be anywhere near in shape by May.

I've heard of the Grand Island Marathon, it's a nice race. And by all means, you should go for a PR. If you've got the training in you should be good to go.

Yeah the race is in NY, south of Rochester. It's beautiful country, I can't wait for the race.

So what speed would you consider would count for this thread? I'm doing daily workouts and slowly increasing the speed but I don't think I'm even up to a brisk walk yet. Of course I'm doing this at a 10% incline.

Locut0s, we're counting power walking and hiking in this thread, too. Basically any walk/run that is done for fitness sake.

Yes but how would one define power walking? I've been exercising for the past 2 months so to loose weight so that counts as fitness but I'm not sure the speed I've been going would count as power walking. So my question basically is at what speed would you consider a walk to be "power walking"?

Hey Locut0s - any walk specifically for the purpose of exercise, where you raise your heartrate and work up a sweat, counts. Doesn't matter how fast it is.

That said, please exclude walking in the mall, down to the corner store, the bus stop, or home from the bar at 3 am 😉.

Well O.K. then 🙂 I've been working out for the past 50 days conservatively, probably more like 55 but I'll use 50. I've only been averaging about 2.5-3 miles/hr now close to 3 at a 10% incline for 40mins. Because of the incline and the fact that I'm still not in good shape I always work up a good sweat. So that makes it around 83 miles over 50 days, but that's being conservative.

That's on the treadmill.

As for walking outdoors I've done several hikes in the last few days. Using google maps to measure them they were:

5.63,6.25,5.87 = 17.75 miles in the past 4 days or so in addition to the 40min/day

So that works out to 101 conservatively. Up to you guys if you want to count this or not. 🙂

If you do count it that would make the total: 16158
