7 miles on the dreadmill today. Ugh. Apparently I lost even more fitness than I thought. Wanted to do 2x 2 miles at 6:00 pace. First 2 miles were tough but doable. When I started back up again after a half mile recovery, though, it hurt like hell and I ended up cutting it short after a mile. Not fun at all. Plus, having two Dino BBQ pulled pork sandwiches before running didn't help things any either.

Correct mileage is: 15,809

Hey Scorch - I'm not finding 6:00 pace to be that easy either. I did 10 miles tonight with 4 miles of tempo in the middle. The legs felt reasonably quick, but I hit 6:05, 5:59 and then 6:24 for the last two miles. I guess higher mileage will do that to you lol.

Taco salad. I had taco salad for lunch. That's why I felt like a turd on my run today. That's also why I decided to do 6 miles instead of the 4 I had planned. It was a good, relaxing run despite my full belly and the weather was great for running; 30 degrees, light snow softly falling, clouds reflecting the city lights so the whole ground was awash in soft orange light.

It seems my ankle is doing better. I did about 5 miles today, not 6 min. miles but easily 7. My foot and ankle were fine, my knee felt a bit funky, I guess from the limping. So I'm pretty happy. And my eldest, who happens to be my running partner, turned 18 today. We ate like hogs at Applebees tonight.

+7 since last update.. just trying to break an 11 min/mile. :\

Almost to 30 miles total since I started a few weeks ago. Nice weather today, at least... over 30F and sunny!

But, but...taco salad is so tasty!

Also, do you moonlight as a poet or novelist? Very pretty description of your surroundings 🙂.

Happy birthday to your son! Glad to hear you had a good run too.

6 miles for me tonight.

The good news is that the earliest improvements are the easiest. Going from an 11 minute mile to 10 & then 9 is fairly quick and painless. I found that once I started trying to get my average below 8 minutes the suckage really started.

12 miles this morning. It was a bit frosty and crisp at the start, but I saw the sun rise and warm up the city towards the end of the run. Beautiful.

This is definitely true. It's a lot of fun when you start out and you make massive improvements quickly.

Then, as you gain experience, improvements come more gradually. Everyone has a certain point where they have to drastically increase their mileage and workouts just to see small improvements. Diminishing returns is an altogether different kind of fun 🙂.

You sir, have an odd definition of fun 🙂

For me the most satisfying phase was picking up running again after my busted ankle finally allowed it. For about two days afterwards I was all sorts of sore, but in the good way that made me feel like I was really toughening myself up.

No denying it; I am a bit nutty 😛.

That's great. I love that "good" kind of soreness that you have to earn. I hope your ankle has settled down a bit now that you're running regularly.

Haha no, but thanks. I used to dabble in writing back in high school and always did well in English but could never find anything good to write about.

I did another 6 miles today; same exact loop as yesterday but 30 seconds faster. Still feel out of shape but I'm taking it easy so its still enjoyable.
