The Dread Pirate Roberts re-surfaces!!! I did the 5th race in the 6-race series that I am doing (I skipped the last one because of my foot). This one was an 8-miler. Wore my pirate suit again. I am still gradually returning to running, so I didn't race this, but instead wanted to start out at around 7:00 and work my way down to 6:00 or so by the end. I started out too fast at 6:30, so I decided to just keep that pace. I caught up to a guy at mile 4 when we were running straight into the wind and let him draft off me, then paced him in to the finish. Good hard effort, but nothing too strenuous. It was pretty cold and very windy with lots of large lake-effect snowflakes blowing all around; it was quite beautiful actually.

My run got cut short today. I was going to do 6 miles out and then the obligatory 6 miles back. But at the 4.5 mile point I managed to find a rut in the trail that was hidden too well by the snow and I twisted my ankle. Right in front of two young female cross country skiers, too. I was mad and embarassed and in pain all at once. I started back to my car immediately and walked for about 1/4 mile and then I was able to jog. After a mile of jogging I was able to run at a decent clip. And then with about 3/4 mile left I was forced to jog again. It totally sucked but it was better than sitting in the house all day long. So +9 for me today.

Ouch, hope your ankle is ok Mega. Ice it and take some ibuprofen if need be!

I did 12 miles today; my first real longish run since I hurt my foot. I was definitely tired from yesterday and there was a strong constant wind from the west which made the last few miles back even harder (they're hilly too), but it feels good to have done it. Hopefully I can work my way up to 20 miles before Boston....

43k this week. Tried carrying a .5l water bottle on my 27k run this morning. While having the water to drink was definitely nice, I found carrying it to be a pain. Luckily I was done it by 19k and could ditch it in a bin. I probably just need to get used to it though.

17 miles today, including 8 miles at marathon race pace.

One portion of the trail was particularly muddy and slippery after a heavy rainfall last night. Despite shortening my stride, I slipped around a fair bit and tweaked my hip flexor, and it's a bit sore. Hopefully nothing major.

67 miles on the week.

Easy 6 miles last night. Definitely felt my hip flexor/abductor (not sure which) as a dull pain on some of my strides. Also got some pain in my left calf which I haven't had before. Stretched it out and iced up extra well last night but not a good run.

I was planning to do a threshold run tonight but that's probably not a good idea. I'll try transposing my medium-length run tonight and postpone the threshold run until Thursday assuming I still feel ok.
