Since the marathon, just an easy 9+6+7 = 22.

Yesterday I started reading up on forefoot running - I have a few friends that all do it and are very mechanically efficient and fast. Just started looking over videos and articles on heel striking and it's impact on joints, yadda yadda. Needless to say I tried it for a 7 miler today...wow my calves are on fire! It took all my concentration to run that way and finally by the end felt somewhat natural.

Needless to say, have some new shoes on the way. My knees for once didn't crack or creak when I bent down and got up, which, they always do. Was a little shocked when I didn't hear the usual noise. I think it'll take some time getting used to, and with 2.5 weeks left until marathon #5, not sure I should try to be converting my running form right now, but I like the difference already. We'll see how my calves hold up during the 8 mile Turkey Trot tomorrow.

I've been working on forefoot running for a while now, it's gotten to be more natural but not completely innate yet. When I get really tired I revert to bad form. I don't think I can complete a marathon in good form yet, I know I didn't finish the 50k in good form. But, on shorter runs of say 15 miles or less, I do well.

Excellent!

We have already eaten our dinner and cleaned up. My wife roasted a turkey and I deep fried another. Y U M M Y! haha

Also on the table:

yams
butternut squash
mashed potatoes
turkey gravy
green bean casserole
dinner rolls
olives
cranberry sauce

In a few minutes we're leaving for my wife's grandmother's house where we'll graze some more and have dessert.

Tomorrow I have to drag my ass up to Rochester for a 5 mile group run (starts at 8 am), my guts are gonna be full and rolling. Should be a novel experience.

Mmmm...sounds good Mega! I'll have to wait for Christmas to have another feast like that, but my Mom put on a similar menu when we had Thanksgiving last month.

Ran the Buffalo Turkey Trot 8K today dressed up as a pirate. I wasn't sure how fast I could run but I somehow busted out a 28:35, my 2nd-fastest 8K ever (but 63 seconds slower than my PR). The geek in me noticed that my splits created a standard bell curve: 5:36, 5:50, 6:00, 5:47, 5:21. Obviously I could have pushed a bit more in the middle miles but I wasn't sure how fast I could go without puking or totally melting down. Total around 9 miles with warmup and cooldown.

We just got back from Rochester. Tiffany busted out a 5 miler (not one run in weeks and her longest previous run was 3.1 miles) with her brother and I - I was NOT expecting that. She's got a natural ability that exceeds mine. I hope she sticks with it.

ps - waffles and nutella is freaking amazing. I can't imagine eating a waffle any other way now.

Nice 8k there Scorch. I've actually never dressed up for a race.

Did 6 miles last night. My ankle has been a bit sore the last couple of runs, so I've cut back a bit and I'm icing it more to make sure it isn't a big problem.

6-ish today with my friend D, a bit quicker than normal but felt good. Went out downtown after, which was nice as its been a while.

50k this week. Had an interesting 21k run with my dad yesterday. He's getting ready for his first marathon in the spring and wants to do the whole thing at a steady pace so the goal was actually to go as slow as possible. We were aiming for 7:00/km but couldn't manage any slower than about 6:00/km 😛

We did a fast-ish 12 miler today on the CVT. 8 minute miles, and oddly I'm still feeling a little sluggish since the last race. But I'm loosening up and looking forward to my next big event.

allies - yea, get that mileage up dude!

9 miles tonight. This is my first run since Sunday and I have to take the next 2 days off because I'm having dental surgery (grafting for receding gums). This week is pretty much a write-off, bah.
