I've been told that DEET doesn't work, so I just swat them away or crush them when they land. I probably killed a couple dozen or so today alone.

I just did my first 20 miler and I am wrecked. Wow. The first 12 miles were great. The next 4 were ok but things were starting to come apart on me. The 4 miles back to my car were torture. I wound up walking about half a mile of it. I need to go take a cold cold bath now. Later on guys.

That's what I'm figuring, the goal for today was to beat up my legs so they'd get used to it. Mission accomplished. The next time out should not be as bad.

The cold cold bath didn't do anything me. The motrin did though. 🙂

I never realized how addicting running could be.
It is isn't it? I like how I'm always in a good mood after a run. I don't like how I get cranky if I miss a run.

Hi and welcome to AT and the ATH&F forum.

Hi there and Thanks.

btw, Congrats on the first 20 miler. I can't imagine myself doing 10+ miles in a day simply because I have never tried that much in a single day.

ON Topic: Did 5 miles yesterday.

I only went over 10 miles this year. This time last year I couldn't imagine myself doing it either. But on a whim I signed up for a 15 mile trail race back in January and had until May to get ready. In that time I really got to loving on running longer distances. The actual race sealed the deal for me and now I can't get enough. And one really cool thing about ultra running for me: where I live there are a ton of ultra races and the sport is booming.

4 just now. Shins finally felt great. I really ripped along the first 2 miles (probably up around 10 mph for a lot of it), then took it easy on the way home. The heat and direct sun kinda killed me on the trip back.

 Good to see you back contributing miles here.

7 miles for me this morning.

3 miles today and even did some sprints barefooted on a soccer field. Good/bad, noticed no difference in my running form barefoot or with shoes.

14 miles today. Met up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while and we ran the second lap of Burnaby Lake together.

It was a nice change to have someone to talk to and that lap really flew by. I saw my friend last at the trail race a few weeks ago (he won the short course). Prior to that, he had been part of the training group in Victoria when I was in university (he went to a different school in the city) a few years ago.

He's pretty busy these days, but we exchanged #s and email addresses and hopefully we'll hook up for some more long runs.

what I mean is I ran 2 minutes and 27 seconds faster than my previous best. Guess I didn't really explain that one too well now, did I? 🙂 My previous best was 57:27 and I ran 55:00 on the nose yesterday. Pretty good considering I entered my seed time at 54:58!

Anyway, I did an easy 13 on the trails at Mendon Ponds again today. 6824

back to running after my July 4th race, knee was a bit sore afterwards, so I took some time off. Don't like to mess around with my knees.

5 miles today

I knew what you meant without further explanation 😉. I was curious to see your time though. Well done Scorch, that is a quick time!

Easy 5 miles for me tonight.

.5 miles to get to a nice hill + hill sprints (5 times, 1-1.5 miles) + 2 miles completing route (mostly walking 😛 ) = 3-4 miles

6849

07/10: 8x40 yard sprints + 400m during warm-up = ~0.5 miles
07/12: 3x800m runs + 800m during warm-up = 2.0 miles
07/14: 5k run + 800m during warm-up = ~3.5 miles
Total = 6.0 miles

Thanks IB, I was pretty stoked. I'm going for sub-54 next year though, because my first 5K was 19:22. My next 2 were 17:59 and 17:40, so that was obviously a very conservative start. Anyway, another 10.5 for me today. Rounding up this time to 11 for 6866
