Sorry to hear that, man. Where is the stress fracture? How did you know you had it (like, what were the symptoms that caused you to go to the doc)?

How long are you out for?

How about we make the next goal 25,000 miles, or roughly the circumference of the earth, and rename the thread "AT runs around the world" 🙂

I have two. One in each shin, although the right shin is worse than the left.

I've had shin splints (MTSS) before and run through it fine and then used heat and cold and stretching to ensure I don't get it again. It's not the muscle that's sore this time, it's bone. I can push on all the muscles in my lower leg, stretch them, move them etc and nothing hurts. Running, jumping and pressing directly on my shin bone really hurts though. I noticed the pain a while ago but it wasn't too bad so I stupidly kept running on them.

I haven't gone to the doc yet because apparently the only way to really see them is with a bone scan, and the treatment is essentially rest from what I can find. I don't really need to go to a doctor to get him to tell me to rest because I figured that much out on my own 🙂

I've been out of commission for a week now and it has gotten a little better, but I expect it to take at least another 2 before I'm fully healed. It really sucks because I was just getting to the point where I was enjoying running and was starting to see large gains in my times and endurance. I was going for 10 miles at 10 mph 🙁

This thread will be going for a long time though so I'll make it up later.

Oh, and I talked to InflatableBuddha and he's going to change the goal to 10000 miles with a side bet that we get from 1000 to 2000 miles faster than we got from 0 to 1000.

Sounds good, but first we have to make it to 10,000. Then we can up the ante again!

AT runs around the world sounds fvcking awesome. Let's hurry up and get to 10,000 so we can do that!

My boy and I just logged our first 10 miler!! Badass hill run too. We are very psyched, the 15 mile trail race in May is going to be no problem.

11 miles today. Started out 60 degrees so I just wore shorts, 3 miles in it dropped to 45 with driving rain and sustained 30+mph winds. Needless to say, I was a little chilly. Found some Oakleys on the trail though. 1078

20 mile LSD today. Wish I would've seen this thread earlier in my marathon training 😀

I'll probably be adding 40-60 mi/week for the next couple weeks, then it's taper time.

For those of you running marathons in May, what are you signed up for? I'm doing the Flying Pig in Cincinnati.

I'm not up to marathon level yet, but my son and I are doing the Medved Madness Trail Run, it's a 15 miler on May 3. I'm going to be running the Wineglass Marathon in October though.

Damn, Caveman, you're a beast!

15 miles for me today.

Yeah, I guess I was trying to make-up for the other week. I was so tired last night and this morning.

I did run another 3.5 miles today.

 Best of luck to you and your son! Is father going to reign supreme, or son going to be the victor? 😀

Excellent! I'm impressed at how fit AT forums are 😀

Edit: BTW current count is 1116

Another 2 miles of light running to practice POSE and get used to VFFs. This is the first time my calves haven't felt utterly destroyed at the end.

My son is getting better faster than I am (I am 22 years older than him after all), but overall I'm a better runner still. I'm working on his stamina by doing hill runs at the moment, speed will be next. He may match me on the big day though, he's really pushing himself hard.
