 I hit the trails today too, and the green canopy and cool breeze kept the scorching sun at bay. Trail runs are great!

A painful 7 on Saturday - hot and my foot was hurting after mile 1

A pretty easy 9 today

5198

On that note - does anyone have trouble with other brands of shoes? IE, I've been running exclusively in Brooks Adrenaline GTS. I picked up a pair of Mizuno Wave Inspire 4s - still a support shoe, same size - the top of my right foot gets some nasty pain after about 1-2 miles. I can still run but it hurts. (The bone connecting to my big or my second toe)

I switched back to my Adrenalines this morning and ran 9 no pain, no issue whatsoever. (I have some Brooks on the way to replace them now)

That being said - if anyone wears Mizuno Wave Inspires, Size US-10 Mens - D width, shoot me a PM. (Less than 50 miles on them, but they don't work for my feet apparently) :(

RB, I switched to Mizuno Wave Ascend 4s (trail shoes good for road running too), size 10, almost 2 weeks ago and my legs feel great. The NB shoes I was wearing before never treated me as well as these do, not even when they were new.

Did you get them fitted to you? Were they recommended to you by a qualified sales person? My shoes were on both accounts. Perhaps these are the wrong style for your needs. :(

Good points Megatomic. Some brands and models of shoes just don't work as well for different people. The width (usually the toe box width) is one area that needs to fit well, but it's also tricky because a size 10 Brooks may not be quite the same length as a size 10 Mizuno.

Of course the cushioning and ride is crucial, and every shoe rides slightly differently.

RB - Since you're finding the Adrenaline GTS works for you, stick with it. You can always stop by your local running store to ask about similar models and give them a test run. You might be pleasantly surprised. I can't comment on the Mizunos as I've tried a few models briefly and I didn't like the ride.

after nearly 90 miles in the last 7 days, I treated myself to a day off... and only did 9 miles. 5220

By the way, Brooks and Mizunos are almost polar opposites. Brooks tend to be very wide and stable, even their cushioning shoes, and moderately soft, whereas Mizunos tend towards being narrower and very very firm. I can't wear either brand because I have very narrow feet with a rigid arch, so I need a snug fit with lots of cushioning. That's why I stick to Adidas and Saucony. If you like Brooks, try New Balance or Asics. If you like Mizuno, I honestly don't know what else to recommend because they feel like I'm running on bricks when I wear them, and I don't know of any other brand that has such a firm ride.

As to shoes, I'm a high arch runner that needs a cushioned shoe. I like the Asics Nimbus. I also have a pair of New balance 1063's that are pretty nice, but seem a bit softer in the heel then my asics. Still, I like have two different models to wear, lets my feet not get stuck in the same shoe all the time. I still like the asics better then the NB's, but both are OK.

I tried the Mizuno Wave Creation, but was WAY too stiff/firm for me. Couldn't get used to them.

4.75 today. Had I planned it out before my run I'd have run the extra 1/4 mile to round up to 5. Oh well, adding 4.

I got my ass kicked by the heat, not having much at all to eat all day, and not drinking any water beforehand. :(

TBH, I find Asics to be like "bricks". I wore NBs for a number of years and they're a pretty cushy ride by comparison.

I'm in Nikes now BTW.

I'd say we're a couple of pansies in the spectacular weather here, but the truth is I've been sweating balls too. Hopefully I'll be adjusted by the weekend.

It'd make it a whole lot more bearable if I was to run from Kerrisdale down to Kits beach, go for a swim, then lay in the sun all day. I think from my place, around UBC and down to kits is a half marathon, so it'd be a good goal (and reward!) as soon as I get a free day.

Nice. That would be a fantastic route. I ran the trails at Pacific Spirit Park last weekend and if I'd had more energy, I would have gone down along Spanish Banks (didn't really want to conquer the hill on the way back though).

I had no idea there was that big a difference in shoes. I found (maybe it was b/c my Brooks were worn out) that Mizuno's felt kind of bouncy/cushiony. The narrow/firm seems to make sense, given the pain in my foot. (And my now black toenails on my 2nd toe) :(

Got my Brooks last night - switched over to a neutral vs my old stability shoe - a buddy said from looking at my walk/run I might be better in a neutral shoe. Ran a solid 4 tempo this morning, so we'll see how they do for me. (I had to use a Superfeet insert in my old stability shoes)
