I don't know how Contra is that hard? I got to the point where I could play through it, dying only once.

Ghosts & Goblins, though...fuck that shit.

I would like to note this list is not trying to say "The 10 Hardest Games Ever". It's just 10 hard games hell they're not even numbered. I'm sure there's plenty more.

Silver Surfer

What's worse is that G&G was on Arcade too and I remember spending many o' coin on that absolutely impossible game.

I never finished Zombies Ate My Neighbors, though it was more because it was a really really long game and that's what made it difficult.

Blaster Master was possibly one of the funnest games of all time. It was tough but not that bad. It's all about the frog. Never played Zombies, Silver Surfer, or Conan.

I spent hundreds of hours mastering Ghosts & Goblins on NES and never got close to finishing that game. Every level had to be memorized with every movement and stroke of the pad had to be perfect.

Fun game, great concept but impossible.

Glad to see it recognized as one of the hardest.

The Immortal was a fantastic game I forgot about it, although, I wish I played it on Amiga where it was much more gory compared to the NES version.

TMNT was stupid hard for NES and I remember struggling on the 1st level of Shadow of the Beast on Genesis great music as well.

Ninja Gaiden was stupid retarded annoying hard, even with cheats.
Thankful for those damn save states. Would have never finished otherwise.

Pursuit Force on PSP has been widely renowned to be too difficult for majority of casual-average skilled gamers. It's fun, up until it gets too difficult to progress.

A lot of old school games seemed to be created to be unbeatable without cheating.
I enjoy a lot of old stuff, but I suck too much to get very far into a lot.
Especially all those shmups.

TMNT on NES was also impossible. the angry video game nerd episode of that game is hilarious.

This is what I came here to say. One of the early stages where you had to dismantle the bombs on the dam was tough. Festers quest was also one of those games which was next to impossible...

That friggin' Weapon under the water in FFVII or VIII has driven me out of my mind. I've read the trick to beating it but it's not the same as doing it on your own.

Regarding ikari warriors

I had that on my apple 2c. 4 levels I think and I rarely made it to the 3rd. Never even came close to beating it.

Jamd bond 007 on atari 5200. Never beat it but came close sevdral times.
