10 insanely tough games

oregon trail and contra are very out of place on that list, ghost and goblins is the hardest fucking game imo

The Myst series - I dare you to finish any one of them without going through a walkthrough.
Super Meat Boy - Frustrating beyond all imagination
I wanna be the guy - No comments

I remember KKnD Xtreme being fairly tough, at least compared to the other two RTS' that I played around that time period, Total Annihilation and Command and Conquer.

The flash games shouldn't even count, since some of them are purposely insane. Being free gives them the luxury of making them ridiculous (which is part of the appeal).

Ninja Gaiden on NES was very tough at the end. I had to purchase a NES controller with the slow down button to beat the end boss.

.

End boss in NG and NG2 could be beaten in like 5 seconds with one of his power moves (the spinning wheel thing). The game itself was hard as hell though.

Other very hard games
Ghosts n Goblins
Battletoads / Super Battletoads

PS, we had this thread already in the PC games forum some time ago.

No Project X for the Amiga on that list? Pfff... The endboss of the second level was impossible without having all the upgrades up to that point, and dying once meant losing 2 levels of upgrades. Not to mention that it was pretty much impossible to reach that point without dying at least once, let alone kill the boss. You had to kill a full wave of mobs to get upgrades, and missing one upgrade or dying once meant you could no longer kill them and would also spawn a bit further back, meaning you had to do the same mobs again but with less firepower.

I think I reached the start of level 3 once, and then died and had to give up as I couldn't even kill 1 mob there without max powerups.

The game is composed of five levels. Many players never completed the second one (which had a very difficult ending), and most of the rest never went past level three.

I had the game boy version of contra I think, it was called Operation C or something like that. I remember hating the shit out of that game because it got so hard at certain points. I don't think I ever finished it.

Fuck Ghosts n Goblins. I wasted a ton of quarters and drank a lot of slurpees trying to play that fucking game growing up.

Oregon trail was easy as a walk in the park. All you had to do was rest whenever someone got sick, and made sure you constantly had enough food, which wasn't even hard since a Bison weighed like 500lbs and costs only a few rounds.
