Try a diet with a lot of raw fruits and vegetables
Drink a ton of water, far more than you're used to (and for every cup of coffee you drink, drink two glasses of water to compensate for it)
Stop drinking soda if you do
Try not to eat any fried foods or margarine
More omega 3's and soluble fibers
Exercise. You don't have to go running every day, but walking at a brisk pace and jumping on a trampoline are both very healthy for you. Most importantly, find something active that you enjoy doing.

 2 Litres a day i would recommend, i drink 1.5L. It's really good for your body (obviously since we are 70% water mass), it also helps to lose weight.

Yup. Exercising and eating a normal diet (cut out the high fructose-loaded foods) will do wonders for your health. Switch from whatever you drink to water. That alone will make a very large difference.

And 5'10" @ 250? No offense, but that is kind of big.

Here's some more information I read about the benefits of drinking more water, this part dealing with high blood pressure...

http://www.healingdaily.com/conditions/heart-disease-3.htm

High blood pressure, and high cholesterol are adaptations by the body to the problem of insufficient water.

A shortage of water in the body is first handled by closing off some capillaries. When this happens the areas served by those capillaries can then become unhealthy or diseased in some way. When these capillary networks are closed down, they provide an obstacle to the movement of blood and the blood pressure must go higher to push through the area.

When the water shortage is greater than can be accommodated by a shut-off of some of the capillaries, then the shortage of water is made up from the liquid in the arteries.

About 65% of the water shortage is taken from water inside the cells. These cells become dehydrated. Dehydrated cells become diseased much more easily than cells hydrated with the proper amount of water.
About 25% of the water shortage is taken from the water outside the cells. This reduction in water means that the blood becomes thicker. Thicker blood needs to be pushed harder to move it along - high blood pressure.
heart disease and blood pressure

About 10% of the water shortage is taken from the volume of liquid moving through the arteries. When there is a smaller volume of blood in the arteries, the arteries MUST get smaller to avoid air pockets from being formed. Smaller tubes require a higher blood pressure to push the supply of blood needed by the body.

So, 2 of the areas where the body takes water during a shortage will cause an increase in blood pressure.

Replacing sugary drinks (which use high fructose corn syrup, which is a lot worse than regular sugar) with water helps.

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise...That is the key. People just never follow through and consistently perform their workout. Start out slowly but it is Always important to stay consistent. Minimize any back eating habit such as junk food or snack...Yeah, people can take drugs...But oh god, it had side effects...but still, people (us americans in general) continues to racket up to the drug industry with their natural tendency to fall back on prescriptions at the slightest of problems and complain about the cost...

As a side note, i live right across from Dicks...That place is always jam pack and full of traffic. Very sad...

Yes, drinking more water can help with high blood pressure and cholesterol. Drinking more water is the simplest, healthiest thing you can do IMO.

breakfast = raisin bran + 1 fruit

Lunch = Salad and tuna or lean chicken - lite or no dressing

Dinner = sensable with lots of vegatables

snacks in between = fruits

liquids = a gallon a day of water....it helps if you've finished your gallon well before bed.

Exercise = you need at least an hour a day of semi-rigours activity...walking wont cut it..... if you want to break that up into 30 min in the morning 30 min at night fine. but that 3 hours at the computer at night has got to go.

make sure you get consistent sleep.

cut out all sodas and caffiene.

stick to this for 3 months( you can allow a cheeat meal here and there 2-3 times a month) return to the doctor and you will have a much better diagnosis i promise.

mribnik1 speaks TRUTH!!!

Eat better.........(cut the orange juice & eat an orange instead! Cut the sodas.........YES, even diet..........down to ONE PER DAY!!! Drink it in a glass with ice and enjoy but limit it to ONE per day........I promise that this will make a HUGE difference in your life & health!)

Don't sweat the "with everything" stuff at Subway!! Get all the veggies they can pile on there for ya'!!

Then the water thing..........I absolutely ENDORSE the idea of drinking as much of a gallon of water as you can. Those Crystal Geyser 1-gallon jugs with the plastic handle on top are GREAT for that!! You can refill that sucker for .25 cents at those water outlet stores....(we have 'em all over her in So Cal)......and use one bottle for about 2 weeks. Then replace it with a new bottle & repeat the routine over & over. If you don't get the full gallon down.......don't knock yourself for it, just make sure you get AT LEAST past the halfway point on that jug. This, too, will increase your quality of life tremendously!!

Lastly........if you're a beef eater......I'd suggest something that you don't necessarily have to do all the time, but at least try in the short-term. Start eating either Veggie Burgers or at least chicken/turkey burgers for dinner every night!! You can get some fat-free American cheese slices and put one of those on 'em & you'll be in heaven. I know it doesn't sound good, but if you can stomach the veggie burgers, try Boca, Original Veggie, or any other brands local to the grocery stores you shop at. Mix some veggies in there.........(I like "medley" veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots & squash.).

My typical day......(if you care to test it)..........

7am...........Quaker "Weight Control" Banana-bread flavored oatmeal. (Even better for you than regular packet oatmeal due to the increased fiber, protein and <1gram of sugar)

10:30am........Banana or Yogurt

1pm............6" Subway chicken, turkey sandwich w/ everything.....(I even have them include those spinach leaves in mine.)........you get the gist!

4:30pm..........apple or yogurt or banana (if I didn't eat the banana in the morning)

6pm-6:30pm..........walk, run, bike, shoot baskets. Whatever I FEEEEEEL like doing. Nothing that I don't WANT to do! (And some days I'll simply kick back & do nothing. Exercising every day is fine, but taking a day or two off here & there is also very healthy)

7:30pm........Boca/Veggie/Chicken/Turkey burger w/ American cheese! Veggies, or maybe a Yam.....(love Yams).

Anyway.........that's a sample day. Sometimes I mix things up a little differently, but that's a typical day for me. Approx 1,500 calories when it's all said & done & I'm eating frequently throughout the day.

You definitely *CAN* improve your situation & impress the doctor by your next visit!!

I'll also chime in that I think you should also get your weight down. Start by trying to lose 15lbs in the next 30 days. You should be able to do that steadily. Then maybe 10lbs the next month & see how you feel at 225! I believe you'll feel GREAT!!!!!

Thanks for the ideas. Earlier today I went out for a jog and then did some weights. It was rough. Ran for about a half hour then did weights till I was too tired. Of course I stretched all throughout.

Feeling better already ;)
