MLB the show comes out every year with minimal changes = people praise the game
Madden comes out every year with minimal changes = people crap on the game
aaah gamers. logic doesn't follow us around sometimes.
There are several reasons for this, I think. Like was mentioned below, you have the brand haters. Some just hate
Madden for existing, and release annual rants with as little change and substance as they claim
Madden to have in those rants. Plus, you have a MUCH bigger audience for
Madden than
MLB The Show. There's a larger pool and greater variety of people playing those football games. If you're buying
The Show, you're buying it because you like baseball, not because it's a game you and your buds can chill out it. Really, it's like comparing football and baseball, in regards to their popularity and fan bases.
The other thing I think of is the starting point. People go on about how
NFL 2K5 was, and is, the best football game ever.
Madden works from a position of being the franchise that bought its victory, rather than running the competition out of town (like with
NBA 2K and
NBA LIVE). People long for
MVP Baseball's return, but that is mostly the Xbox crowd. People don't doubt the quality of
The Show because it's been proven to handle real life baseball incredibly well for years.
Madden still struggles with a lot of the little things, like animations and the run game and line play and pass coverage. The game has a lot more going on than a baseball game, so it has more chances to fail, and more chances for those failures to get noticed.
