Found this on Yahoo's main page, I don't know if it's a repost but I didn't see it under search.

1 Month of free service from Vonage under all rate plans for new subscribers. They also have a $14.99/mo plan that's fairly new, 500 minutes anytime anywhere in the US and Canada.

Update - $14.99 rate plan - I just called to find out the details on it for those of you that were sketchy. It's 500 minutes anytime anywhere in the US and Canada for outgoing calls. All incoming calls are unlimited and do not go against the 500 minutes. The difference between this plan and the $24.99 plan is that the $24.99 plan includes unlimited local and regional calling, and 500 minutes long distance within the US and Canada. Their minute numbers are not affected by inbound calls.

Here's the link as it redirects me from Yahoo!: http://www.vonage.com/index.php?refer_id=F3FMOTV1

Here's the Yahoo! link that redirects: http://rd.yahoo.com/M=264775.4284946.5484514.3345592/D=yahoo_top/S=2716149:T/A=1901196/R=0/*http://click.atdmt.com/VON/go/yhxxxvon00100056von/direct/01/

Enjoy.

Update - If you click around Vonage's site enough times you should get a popup window saying that new subscribers by 12/31/03 receive 1 free month of service. Click on the little popup and it will take you to the same page as above, although with a different referral ID, assumedly one from Vonage. Please note the links I posted are not personal referrals. I will not post any personal referrals due to the rules of the HD forum.

This service is awesome...it's free to Canada too for $35 a month...much better than the $100/month I was spending on bigzoo to talk to my fiance (bigzoo is 2.9c a min). You get your own phone number with all the features you would get on a normal phone line, and the quality is just as good.

My local ISP recently started reselling Vonage. The plans look so incredible, I'm seriously considering switching.

Anyone have any experience with Vonage? I know much of the reliability/service level is completely reliant on your ISP's performance.

Anything else?

Vonage has 3 price plans:

$34.99/month - Unlimited calls anywhere in US & canada
$24.99/month - Unlimited local calls & 500 minutes to anywhere else in US & Canada
$14.99/month - 500 minutes anywhere in the US & Canada (This plan was just introduced a few weeks ago)

I currently have the $24.99 plan and the service is great. I love it. Based on my usage through I will be switching to the $14.99 plan.

My sister has been using their service for the better part of a year. She sent me a referral, and I signed up ... so we both get a free month.

My hookup package should have arrived today, so I haven't yet had a chance to try out the service, but my sis hasn't had any complaints about it.

As for the rates ... I went with the $14.99/month plan. If you go over, it's still only 3.9 cents per minute ... or, 256 minutes over to reach the next price level ($24.99).

Even their International rates are highly competitive. I hope the service is rock solid ... I'll report back after I've had a chance to try it out.

It's a referral link yes - but it's an advertising link directly through Yahoo! directly off of www.yahoo.com main page. IE you're being referred by Yahoo, not an individual.

what kind of taxes and fees do they tack on? I know it may vary by location but what is the total monthly bill for the $34.99 plan?
Thanks

Just a clarification before i join.

When they say 500 mintes in 14.99 plan, is it including incoming as well as outgoing (like mobile) or outgoing only. Moreover do they charge anything extra for letting you make international calls.

Are there any hidden costs with Vonage?

No. When you sign up for service, you will pay a one-time activation of $29.99 plus the first month's service charge. In addition, you pay a one-time $9.95 fee for shipping and handling. We charge 3% Federal Excise Tax on all service charges.... We also charge a Regulatory Recovery Fee of $1.50 per phone number in your account.

Newtotech,

I've had Vonage for over a year & like it a lot.

As for the 500 min, only outgoing non International & toll free calls counts towards it. Both incoming and toll free calls are free.
There is no additional fee for International calls and they don't count towards the 500 minutes.

If you PM me, I'll referr you which will give each of us a free month ;)

Also on the same site they are selling the Sipura SPA-2000, the top of the line of the voice over ip telephone adaptor for $109.95 (regularly $120) and it comes with a free month of VoicePulse and no activation fees. The telephone adaptor vonage gives you is made by motorola and a lot of people are reporting problems with it. Also Vonage locks the adaptor so you can't use it with any service but theirs and you have to return it when you cancel their service. You can use the Sipura with two different services, even free ones like free world dialup. Theres been a lot of discussion about this deal over on the voip forums at dslreports. Here's the direct link: http://www.voxilla.com/shop/index.php?action=item&id=3

Vonage is great...I don't even have a regular land line. Just cable modem, Vonage, and a cell phone.

My wife talk on the phone with her folks in Canada for hours for free1 (After the $35 a month) Saves us big time.

Also, you get free call forwarding or double ring calls to your Vonage phone are also routed to your cell or somewhere else even.

Free unlimited *69 too!

Why is this so frowned upon? I think it's just creative capitalism- more power to him! He should be rewarded for sharing with us such a great deal. It's not like he's screwing you guys or anything... get over it.

My last bill was as follows:

Unlimited Local/Regional Plus Plan for (11/28-12/27) $24.99
Sales Tax: $1.50
FET Tax: $0.75
Regulatory Recovery Fee: Details $1.50
Total Amount: $28.74

I think you only get charged tax if you live in New Jersey though (Vonage is a Jersey based company).

True, it could be vonage purchasing advertising through Yahoo. Or it could be an individual buying advertising through Yahoo and using their referall link. I have seen this before (not necessarily on yahoo, but on other sites)

I looked at Vonage a while back. One thing that bothered me was their 911 capability. I do not know if it got resolved by now.

Vonage might not always forward you properly to your local emergency services, and your local emergency services might not be able to trace you and your location when you call (in case if you are incapable to talk, or whatever).

The company I work for is partnering with Vonage. I've been there, and met some of their staff. They are very professional and have a solid business plan.

On a side note, check out Packet8. They offer numbers in some locations Vonage doesn't yet, and their offering is unlimited local and long distance for $20/month.

Oh, and yes, they do have 911 service now.
