One million huh? I guess they had one million left over GCs to re-package.

yeah, why is making 1 million of a overclocked 5 year old console, special and comparable to xbox360 or ps3 launch?

because they made it so it would sell to non-gamers. and they actually profit on the sale.

that addresses design and pricing, not launch availability

Sure, you could certainly say that Sony had a more difficult time getting production started on the PS3 because the processor technology is more advanced. You could also say they didn't plan well. They shouldn't have tried for a November launch. The Christmas season is important for video game sales, but when you don't have enough of them to meet demand it doesn't do you much good.

Edit: Nintendo did have to put a great deal of work into the controller interface though... I mean it doesn't just magically work, they had to design a way to take the input from the controller and turn it into useful input for games - not exactly a trivial task itself.

i'm talking about the original quote this thread is based on

WTF are you reading

"We're looking at a million (units) for North America at launch," said Bertram. "When Sony came out (with their PS3 announcement), they said 300,000.

But this thread is mostly people just discussing the volume of systems available at launch. Most of us are pleased by this news. I'm not sure where "special" comes anywhere into the discussion.

the way you use special seemed to imply you think the wii is just a gamecube, and whatever. my point was it's more than that, that's why it's a big deal.

And what makes it *not* special??? 😕

Proof is in the pudding, isn't it?? If it *appears* to be the most bad-ass gaming console ever made, then what does it matter *what* it's produced with???

I don't care if there's a "Commodor Vic20" under the hood. If they can make it look badder than anything else I've ever seen/played.............who cares!! (And FWIW, that sounds like what this thing is gonna be!)
