No ins for me on this stuff. My 8rda+ rev 2 has tons of room for me to upgrade (using a 1700+ and 2x 256MB 2100 ram).
There's a huge price premium here. Back in the day, the Athlon and Pentium III 700+MHz also carried heavy premiums, but then again, those older Celery 300A's at 450 really weren't that fast.

Now, the systems all do regular stuff pretty well that it's not important to be cutting edge IMHO. What demands crazy performance would be gaming and video encoding I guess.

Not really. You can run Half life 2 on a 1700+ with some nice overclockage and a video card. RIg would cost about 700 bucks. Not very extreme to me

I think I'll wait and see how the market responds, am happy with my setup at the moment, next purchase will be a new graphics card though.

I might buy the FX if I feel rich, my friend won one in the AMD treasure hunt and now he's going to blow my rig away and I can't stand for that :D

Anyone know if the FX definitely takes ECC RAM and will any of the AMD64s use dual memory controllers?

My money is going towards whatever increases HL2 and other DX9 games framerates faster. Right now that looks more like the new RV400's job. Or was that the Rv450....eh whatever.

Bragging rights are pointless because you think you have the top of the line and some guy on the futuremark forums has the same parts as you but with extreme cooling getting 4k more points than you. The only way you could keep up is if you were a pro and had at least 3k to burn on comps every year.

I just bought the AMD 64 with the Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard with the VIA K8T800 chipset along with Corsair 1GB TwinX1024R-3200C2 memory. The memory showed up today the rest should be here tomorow. I can't wait!!!!!

This is what my system will look like after tomorrow 10-15-03:

Thermaltake Xaser II Case
AMD 64 Processor
Asus K8V Deluxe MB
1 GB Corsair TwinX1024R-3200C2 Memory
Radeon 9800 256 DDR
Sony DRU 510A DVD Burner
Creative 48x16x48 CDRW
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platnium
Zip 100 Zip Drive
7 in 1 Floppy Drive
Nexus Temp Control
Maxtor 120 Gig 8mb Cache HD
Maxtor 40 Gig HD
True Power 550 volt Power Supply
CT NOW 1600x1200 19 inch Monitor
Haupauge TV Card

Any suggestions on what to upgrade? I think I have it pretty well maxed out other than the memory side of it. What do you all think?

You have too much money. Theres nothing really worth upgrading in that rig. Everything is just about top of the line.

Oh, and welcome to Anandtech, if you like, check out our Distributed Computing board. With a sweet computer like that, we really could use the help in any of our projects.

/end shameless recruiting attempt ;)

I'd say it is a nice system. There isn't anything worth upgrading in my opinion. But if you have lots of money and want to eak out a bit more performance you could look at the hard drives. Of course a new 15k SCSI drive will be the fastest of all, but those aren't always convenient or affordable - so I'd suggest getting one of the new 74 GB Raptors that will be released in the next few weeks. You'd find it to be significantly faster than either of your two drives there. And only a 19" monitor with that beast? You need a much larger monitor...
