i'm about to pick up a 1.2ghz celeron cpu for a friend. we plan on sticking it into an abit va6 slot1 motherboard. being the new cpu is a socket370 fcpga chip... i will need a s370 to slot1 coverter right? i was looking around online, and of all the "slotkets" i saw... they never mention anything about supporting tualatin cpu's. so i'm wondering... do these slotkets not support tualatin cpu's? has anyone ever used a tualatin cpu in a slot1 motherboard with a slotket?

I had a motherboard with a slot 1. It didn't even support coppermine :( Your best bet is to check your motherboard to see if its compatible.

theoretically it should work in a va6, i have my celeron 1.2 in a be6.

you need a good slotket converter (i used an abit slotket !!!)

you also need to modify it so that itll support tualatins/celeratins/celeron III

technically bh6/be6/va6 only supports up to celeron II (1.1ghz, 128kb cache), where as the tualatins are 256kb cache

do a little modding on a slotket (need a spare ata/100 cable you're willing to mutilate) and you're set :)

Sometimes I wonder about these people who submit links to articles. Do they bookmark everything of interest or do they actually do the work for your ass and search the net for a solution for you.

interesting. but a tad pricey

I have a PL adapter for my 1.2Ghz Tualatin Celeron and my Abit BX6 (R.2). WARNING: They don't O/C very well since you can't manipulate the voltage. BTW, my MB is dying and I guess I will buy a cheap Tualatin supported MB - I guess I will have a PL adapter going cheap soon . . .

please define cheap :D

cheap Pronunciation Key (chp)
adj. cheap·er, cheap·est

Relatively low in cost; inexpensive or comparatively inexpensive.

As soon as I confirm the MB is the problem by swapping in an old 600E - I have tried everything else including changing the videocard - It'll be for sale, cheap.

I try to find links if I can but if I can't in a few minuites, I give up. I don't have too much time to spend looking for links until someone argues with me ;)

That's normal, even my Powerleap adaptor (v 2.0 with Tualatin support) gives those weird post speeds - Celeron 1.0A reads as (this is a Dell motherboard) XPS-T700 Mhz.

No need to worry, a friend of mine (and most others) experience strange speeds reported by the BIOS.

However, my setup always reports the correct speed...only reason for this in our opinion is that my Celly is already B1 stepping (9 Capacitors on the bottom instead of 12 and also new serial number).

Keep us posted, how long your board lives, because the old BX-boards are not supposed to deliver flows of 25A for the processors...in my case the BF6 is supposed to deliver 15A max...:eek::eek:
Another friend just took his board to the graveyard...busted capacitors and melted transistors... :Q
So watch out for a cheap new Tually-board...the fun can be over soon... ;)

Have you tried overclocking it yet?
Should be no prob...the Tually is the hell of an overclocker but reaches his physical limit at ~1740, perhaps you can squeeze it to 1800 with liquid cooling, but IMHO it's not worth the effort...

Yikes! hmnnn. I guess if I fry my BF6, then I'll finally have an excuse to buy a P4 setup. Oh darn, and unexpected benefit of O/C'ing ;).
