0-20 oil for the frs?

15wX has been used in Canada and many other much colder places. It alone would not cause the engine to fail.

I knew people that ran 20w50 year round and got over 100k on the motors.
15 weight is not that much thicker than 10 let alone cars ran straight 30 weight for decades in older designed motors and those held up just fine as well.
 
Depends on the engine. This was probably over 11:1 with tight ring sleeves and considering the amount of shavings on the oil that's what I was leaning towards. But it cold have been the oil pump. It could have been just about anything. But compression fell too the floor and I saw no obvious valve damage after pulling the valve cover off.

When he described how much trouble he had starting it after changing to a thick weight in the cold, it was obvious to me it was the oil.

Again; straight non W 30 weight was used in pretty much all engines back in the day and they ran fine every where.

A 15wX oil is not going to cause a motor to blow up. Anybody they thinks that has little to no automotive education or experience.

edit: brb, off to replace all my oil with 30W and refuel with 87 octane. I mean, Jimzz told me "back in the day" that was fine for everything. It has to be fine for my engine, right?

I've built hundreds of motors and used many different brands and weights of oils. You have no idea what the weight of oil is let alone how it works if you think that 15w, or even mildly thicker, would cause an ICE to fail alone is just stupidity.
