Well, it surely sells to AVX-512 shops. Like AMX sells to whatever AI shops.

    Discussion Zen 7 speculation thread

Yes, that 40% IPC bubble is Zen 5's trademark. Yes, but... reading the Chips'n'Cheese profiled data, majority of stalls within the Zen 5 core are caused by the frontend latency. This metric is hugely flawed. Capacitance/frequency optimization, weird IO stuff, niche features, etc. Specifically...

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

Even if the result is 6.150GHz the story could run as "AMD targeted 7GHz but RDNA3-ed"... The thing is, outside world would never know.

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

How reliable is that message, considering the rumored H2 2026 release?

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

lol, it makes perfect sense. Every single prior attempt to make a "large permium APU" has been canned. STX Halo making it all the way to launch is still very exceptional. Intel, the king of x86 laptop space, failed with their Kaby-G. AMD got no leverage in the OEM laptops space to establish a...

7GHz would improve the perception of Zen 6% a bit

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

I like how he states Zen 6 is just an evolution of Zen 5. No hype trains in sight. Regarding the those memory controllers, It's known upcoming server CPUs support both DDR5 and MR-DIMM.

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

Keep in mind the multi-thread clock boost is partially allowed by the SP7 raising the TDP form 500W to 600W (or more with cTDP?). This doesn't apply to AM5, which has been on the design limit for quite a while.

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

Keller told that a lot during his 2018-2019 "Intel speeches". An yeah, we have got some IPC since then. 2019 - Sunny Cove - 18% IPC, 2021 - Golden Cove - 19% IPC; 2024 - Lion Cove - 14% IPC. 1.18 * 1.19 * 1.14 => 60% Looking at Apple cores, there is still potential to extract IPC.

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

AFAIK EPYCs do not casually run at 5.7GHz... The quoted 1.7x figure is surely for a top model which means a strongly thermally/power limited SKU. That means 2nm should allow higher real frequency than 2.25/3.7GHz of Bergamo. Besides that, the new platform increases the number of memory channels...

    Discussion Zen 7 speculation thread

Given Zen 6 launches in H2 2026, any 2027 launch is simply a variant of the Zen 6 IP or older. AMD delivering a major core IP upgrade in less than 18 months is almost impossible.

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

IMO there has been no hype train for the Zen 6 client. It's always been rumored to be a fairly boring incremental Zen 5 with removed ancient IOD baggage.

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

That's quite a bump from 12ch of DDR5 6400. Also having EPYC refreshed in just a year. This is very un-AMD-ish.

    Discussion Zen 7 speculation thread

Yea, given Zen 6 is H2 2026 with the rest dripping through 2027, Zen 7-based products are most likely gonna be relevant in 2029.
