Gateway 18.1 LCD refurb is back for 399.99!

I'm playing The Thing and UT2003 on this monitor. The ghosting is very subtle. My wife couldn't see it at all. The color presentation on this monitor is excellent. It blows away my Hitachi Supercan Elite CRT in every conceivable way except the very slight ghosting. I'm sure it isn't the...

Gateway 18.1 LCD refurb is back for 399.99!

Guys, I just picked up two of these, one for myself and one for my wife. $399 shipped, comes with the DVI cables. The colors are vibrant, the text clear. Ghosting is very subtle but visible on shooters, non-existant on everything else. This is just a fantastic deal. I thought it would be...

    Question about DVI connection

I figured it out. I'm a moron. I had trouble getting the male into the female, probably because I just didn't have them properly lined up. Then when I looked I saw the number of pins was different and assuming incompatability. The monitor has a DVI-D connection and the Radeon 8500 has a...

    Question about DVI connection

Thanks for the reply. I remain confused. The monitor specs say it has DVI-D. The cable that comes with it says "DVI Digital Single Link Shuttle-C' whatever that means. It has 3 sets of pins. Two identical square sets that are each 3 by 3, so 2 sets of 9 for 18 pins. The third is a single...

    Question about DVI connection

Are you telling me there is only 1 kind of DVI jack? So what is this? It isn't VGA. There's a separate VGA connector. And this cable says DVI on it, but it won't plug into the videocard. There's got to be an answer here. - David

    Question about DVI connection

where do I plug it into? My videocard does not have a DVI-D jack? Am I missing something?

    Question about DVI connection

I just got an 18.1" Gateway LCD monitor with DVI. I have the Radeon 8500 videocard. The DVI cable that came with the monitor seems to have 2 arrays of 9 pins each. My videocard's DVI input is incompatable having an array of 24 holes and a separate array of 4 holes. What product do I need to...

Gateway 18" LCD with DVI for $399 - Hot or Not?

"Acceptable" is a moving target depending on your standards. I see very slight ghosting with 30ms displays, which is acceptable to me. If I were a perfectionist, I would agree that something under 20 is best. Delbert: Thanks for the tip on the DVI cables. I am getting two of the Gateways...

Need Recommendation For Nforce2 Mobo, Memory

Not too shabby, but I'm starting to get that "price creep" bug. I've got a new job and money burning a hole in my pocket. I don't really need the Asus Deluxe board, but upgrade disease has its grip. I was also starting to consider the XP 2500 (333). Uh, and an 18" LCD. Must. Not. Comply.

Need Recommendation For Nforce2 Mobo, Memory

I'm actually looking for the SATA than the RAID. I have an obsession with ribbon cables. I can't stand them.

Gateway 18" LCD with DVI for $399 - Hot or Not?

30 ms with DVI should be acceptable for games. You might see very faint ghosting at most. Damn though, $355. I'd jump on that in 2 seconds flat. If I can't find a better deal, I think I'll jump on this one though.

Need Recommendation For Nforce2 Mobo, Memory

Thanks Ben. The "+" is only 10 bucks more, so I figure I may as well have RAID in case I ever decide to use it. Didn't know about the sound being comparable to Audigy. I might consider transferring my Audigy to my wife's comp if that's the case. I am also considering springing another $30...

Need Recommendation For Nforce2 Mobo, Memory

Yeah, that's what I've heard. And I'm certainly not going to use IGP. I guess it doesn't hurt though, since 1 stick of 512 is usually more expensive than 2 sticks of 256 anyway.

Gateway 18" LCD with DVI for $399 - Hot or Not?

OK thanks. I've had good experiences with refurbs before. I just might try this one out. Response time listed as 30 (rise + fall) looks acceptable.

Need Recommendation For Nforce2 Mobo, Memory

Thanks for the speedy reply. I was actually considering the Epox. I read somewhere that using the NF2 in dual channel mode makes very little difference. Is that true?
