Solved! Alternating HDMI ports not working...?

Hah, with my luck, it probably is gremlins. Thanks for the input, I'll try to track down the service manual and board diagram. As an update, the cable was going in and out while plugged in (e.g., signal going black or to static), so I tried plugging my Playstation into port 1. TV didn't...

Solved! Alternating HDMI ports not working...?

Hi all, been a while since I've posted here on AT, but figured I'd come back to probe the collective wisdom. We have a 65" TCL Roku TV hooked up to our Cox Contour TV box. A couple months back, our HDMI 1 port stopped working (i.e., reports no signal). As the same thing (with the same Contour...

Which inactive interesting ATOTers do you miss or remember?

Ah, reading through all these names is a nice walk down memory lane. And for some reason, it activated a remote, long-lost memory of the tire pressure thread.

ADHD is not a real thing

Unfortunately, this is generally not true; psychostimulant medications are effective (in a variety of ways) for people with and without ADHD. Response to the medication is neither sensitive nor specific RE: being an indicator of presence or absence of the condition. As for ADD vs. ADHD, the...

Phantom cell phone ring in my leg. cell phone is on desk.

It's a sensory illusion/misperception, that's all. Very similar to when you think you see movement (e.g., a bug) out of the corner of your eye when nothing is there, or when you think you hear your name called when no one's around or no one is talking to you. Or even somewhat similar to how we...

Question about 1 rep maximum effort lift attempts

Agree with the others--I haven't done any 1RMs in quite a while, but when I did/do, it basically turns into it's own day. I'd do a few warm-up sets first, go for the 1RM, and then (as Koing said) do a lighter routine of 3x5 afterward.

Tony Stewart killed a 20 year old dirt track driver....

I agree--unfortunate all around, but the guy just shouldn't have gotten out of his car, and more than that, he shouldn't have gotten so close to the other vehicles as they were coming around the track.

Does the Lucy movie trailer bother anyone else?

Yeah, I can't watch the preview all the way through because that particular myth irks me so much. That's actually the reason I stopped watching Heroes about 5 minutes into the series...when the guy is lecturing in his classroom and says the same thing to the 6 or 7 students in the room. Turned...

    Sleeping 5 hours a night is...healthy?

Those times (especially the 2am bit) actually aren't all that abnormal when compared with most people in the absence of artificial schedule constraints. As for duration, there's a HUGE amount of variability from person to person. Some people (I like to call them "lucky bastards") are fine with...

Quitting my career and getting a PhD - Thoughts?

My advice: take on as little debt as possible while studying (none would be ideal), and get through as quickly as you can while still maintaining a decent quality of life. Just find some semblance of balance between the balls-to-the-wall, four straight years of 100-hour weeks approach vs. the...

Girls are swooning over this Blue-Eyed Gang Member. Can you believe this??

I'm a straight male, and even I'd say that second picture isn't a bad one, either. I've also seen posts floating around that the guy is gay, but who knows. Besides, it's very easy to be attracted to a picture. It can be more difficult to be attracted to an actual person (in person).

Double Bodyweight Deadlift Club: Check in here!

Not sure of my max, although I know I can rep 435# for 3-5 reps (BW = 180# last time I checked), depending on the day. I don't do traditional deadlift as much as I should, although I will hit stiff-leg every week. Right now I'm holding steady at 335x5 for a couple sets, then 385x2 or 3 for a...

If you do curls at the only squat rack in the gym

Depending on the racks, I usually prefer the power rack to a squat rack when doing squats; I feel less caged-in, especially if it's one of those angled squat racks. I'd much prefer just a standard squat stand to those weirdly-angled squat racks. That being said, I personally wouldn't be...

    Health insurance... wt..

This. Also, part of the problem with a lack of healthcare is the reduced utilization of preventive care (e.g., annual physicals). As a result, there are a lot more emergent/catastrophic visits than might otherwise be the case. And you also have folks using the ER as a walk-in primary care clinic...

    Why millennials can't land jobs

 I think in some ways, it's hard to divorce societal trends from the generation(s) currently exhibiting them, as I think some of these things are due more to cyclical workplace/employment zeitgeists than they are specific to a group of people. That is, the trends would've possibly...
