What OS do you have? If its Win 98, thats your problem. Standby mode is very unstable (form my experience at least) under Windows 98.

Why not just get another hdd with how cheap they are (cheaper than a partitioning utility)?

Still having prblems with MCE's after removing IDE cable. Is there any way that i can test the video card or PSU without replacing them?

Whats the external drive formatted in? If it was formatted by the Mac, instead of the XP, could that be the problem?

In the bios, switch around the boot order. Go fdd-cdrw-hdd-dvd. see if that helps.

What if u downoaded the hdd utility from the hdd manufacturer website (fdd version), booted off that, then reformatted hdd? Probably yer mobo however.
