"Insufficient System Resources" Question

When I close or open my laptop from standby mode, as I go to sign-in, a pop-up window sometimes says:

"Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API"

Do I have to change something in the system settings to prevent this pop-up from showing up?

Just last night, the lappy didn't go into standby mode and the closed LCD panel and keyboard were warm to the touch this morning? Does this heat do damage to the LCD screen?

Yes, I have run Anti-Virus.

It seems that if I reboot my computer and dont use standby, the pop-up goes off.

But this isn't right, as standby should be able to be used without any "insufficient system resources" pop-ups.

Any other suggestions?..........

How much ram do you have? Standby suspends the system to RAM, so maybe when it's first coming back up there isn't a sufficient amount of ram, what OS? How much free hard drive space do you have?

What OS do you have? If its Win 98, thats your problem. Standby mode is very unstable (form my experience at least) under Windows 98.

He asked if you have run a virus scan or a spyware check, your reply did not answer the question and I think you missed the point. It would be a very good idea to perform a system virus scan and scan for spyware. It is best to perform these scans from Safe Mode.

I am not certain how to prevent this pop-up from showing up and I am not certain you would want to prevent this warning.

A few years ago, I saw an Acer laptop monitor that sustained damage from heat due to the cover being closed during the computer's operation. Currently, I routinely see people leave their laptop's closed during operation every day and these monitor's do not sustain damage. It is a tough call, I am personally wary of leaving the monitor screen closed and prefer to keep the screen up when my laptop is running.
