Are all USB extension cables the same?

Depends on what you are plugging into what. Lots of USB devices are not quite spec as far as power draw goes and lots of USB ports, particularly laptop or low end desktop, do not deliver quite the advertised power. Normally everything manages to get away with it, but for long extensions issues...

    DisplayPort and Windows text rendering

Hey, yeah, overscan! It's usually more of a HDMI thing, but double check in the monitor's settings (on the actual monitor, not the computer's settings for the monitor) that it is set for 1-to-1 mapping for all the inputs.

    DisplayPort and Windows text rendering

They're actually not. It's not so much a standards or version issue, but cheap cabling can seriously degrade and interfere with the connection quality. Now, anything you get from a site like newegg is probably good to go, but if you found a genuine $5 Chinese knockoff somewhere it really could...

    Lan speed for streaming movies

I think this might be the money quote. Assuming these really are fully uncompressed bluray rips that could be up to 40 Mbps. Great big files like that could be choking almost any part of the network, and a lot of wi-fi will be right out of the question. What sort of router is this going...

    mATX case for Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H

I think I'm going to have to do that. It's just annoying that what looks like an interesting board feature turns out to be functionally, if not technically, outside the mATX spec.

    mATX case for Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H

So there are three cases in the world that allow the board to actually work with SLI/Crossfire? I've got to say, that's a real slow clap for Gigabyte.

    mATX case for Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H

Yeah, it's a bit of a conundrum. I normally think pretty well of Gigabyte, but in this case I think they have completly screwed up by the numbers. As far as I can tell their mATX boards might advertise SLI/Crossfire compatibility but due to the PCIe layout are not physically capable of...

    mATX case for Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H

Thanks for the reply. That case would certainly do it. On the other hand, it's bigger than some ATX cases, which would be the other answer to the problem. Of course, if I'm going to go with a full ATX case, I may as well just go with an ATX board. It's kind of a dumb situation actually.

    mATX case for Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H

Hey all, I'm throwing myself on the collective wisdom of the forums. I'm building a new system, either i5 or i7 and looking at an SLI setup, either immediately or in the future when I need a performance boost. I'm looking at mATX boards because the only feature differences between them and...

looking for a small NAS case

What size motherboard are you using? Since you are talking small, I assume that you are using mATX. newegg has a couple mATX mid/mini tower cases listed with 3 5.25 bays. This one looks OK http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811190072

Alternatives to a Thermaltake Lanbox Lite?

I'm fairly new to smaller form factor computers, so I'm turning to the community for a little advice/double check. Right now I'm in the process of building a mATX based system. Its purpose in life will be serving up video/audio for my TV as well as providing some network storage/backup for...

    uATX Update

I too would like to see the reviews. I'm going to building a µATX system in the next few weeks or so. There really aren't any other µATX reviews of quite this scale, let alone recent ones that are still relevant. More information before I put down my money would be nice.

Is this a good value for a pre-built PC?

Zen, check out ncix.com. They are based out of Vancouver. Decent selection and really good prices (for Canada at least). Not quite newegg north, but close :)

    Canadian parts vendors?

I've been looking at TigerDirect, but what they list is a main warehouse in the states. Their FAQ/help stuff on the Canadian version of the site just directs to the American help pages with no Canadian content at all. If anyone has experience with them, I'd love to hear it.

    Canadian parts vendors?

I'm a Canadian that builds the occasional system. I have been looking at parts lately and wondering what else is out there. Most of the big sites tend to be American, which can cause problems. While the prices and variety tend to be a little better, shipping stuff across the boarder can add...
