I wouldn't recommend origami with your IDE-cables, but a little folding won't do any harm. Round cables might become a problem if your cable has to follow a certain narrow path (they are thicker then flat cables), but i guess you'd have a really screwed mobo lay-out for that

by default the promise controller is set as ata100 controller; however there is a jumper with which you can change the controller to raid. perhaps you should check the online manual for which jumper that is and then check if it's accidentally set to raid. and make sure you have set load ata...
