1 gig pc266
geforce 6800
asus p4p800x
When i bought the gig of ram a month ago, it was for my old motherboard and processor(2 ghz). Listened to some people on IRC and they told me pc400 wouldn't be compatible with my old intel...
After installign my new processor and having my power supply blow up today, i've finally got the results that i paid for. I get 60-130 fps on most of source. Still, i get slowdown about 10 fps once i start shooting; if theres a large fire fight, can drop 20 fps in an instant. I have a gig of...
Yeah, kinda hoping that'll happen. New processor is next on my to buy list... just wanna make sure i dont blow up my new motherboard, ram, and video card mostly.
Recently got a new motherboard to compensate for poor performance from my 6800. From what people told me, my 400fsb 2.0ghz processor was holding my card back. With my new motherboard (asus) it has an auto-overclock feature, 15-20-30%. I set it on each and noticed no ill effects even at 30%...
I don't mean to be annoying, but what i'm doing is taking my old processor and putting it into my new motherboard, intel recommends a replacement of the thermal interface material (pad i guess)... so when transfering this, i should just apply some thermal paste to the pad?
Looked at the intel site and i guess most socket 478 processors come with a thermal pad on the bottom of the heatsink, meaning that in MOST cases, thermal gel isnt needed? also, just read that the thermal interface material should be replaced everytime the cpu is seperated from the heatsink...
Is it possible to pul a socket 478 p4 from my old motherboard and just plop it in my new one without having to seperate the heatsink, fan and cpu? Reason im asking is because i forgot to order some damn thermal gel, and i've not done much work with my pc's besides adding a few cd-rom drives...
All right, right now im looking at an asus prp800-x at tiger direct to replace my motherboard. Shame I bought 266 ram just a few days ago... ah well. Question is... could the old intel 845gbv be restricting my agp bandwidth to cause this problem? Hope im not spending more money for nothing...
Reformatted .. turned out to be a waste of time. I guess the only thing left to do is change my motherboard someday and work my way up from there... unless anyone else has any other bright ideas.
Didnt think my intel mobo would allow for overclocking. 845gbv... If i'm wrong, any ideas on where to start?
edit: Oh, and i appreciate all the replies. thanks.
It really can't be the ram, it works great... loads vampire bloodline levels in under 10 seconds compared to my 3ghz laptops 4 minutes (512 ram). I bought two 512 sticks in one pack and replaced the 256 since i've only 2 dimm slots. I do feel a bit taken though for my stupid mistake of buying...
