    New Dell 531s, install xp?

vista re-installed. It's only got a gig which I thought would be fine... vista runs great without all the dell crap + random other junk that it came with... I was actually suprised... I've messed around with it on the internet and stuff.. just can't believe that vista takes up 700 meg of ram at...

    New Dell 531s, install xp?

Got a new dell 531s AMD Based desktop for my g/f's parents today in the mail. Fired it up and vista is a royal pain in the butt.. It hogs so many resources and is just plain unfriendly to people who aren't computer savvy that I would really like to drop it off to them with XP installed instead...

    Lots of questions. stab away

Thanks lightning thats pretty much the info I was looking for. Can anyone explain a little bit about multiple core CPU's and how they are utilized by current OS's? I know for instance that the cell processor in a ps3 is essentially a terrible waste of time because realtime apps cannot utilize...

    Lots of questions. stab away

Preface: I am just starting to research building a new computer, but have been out of the game for about 3 years since I built my last system. IN that time I feel so much has changed that I'd like to be brought up to speed rather than trying to fish through everything on my own. 1. Usage...

    Hot AMD

Just as the title says... I've got an AMD XP 64 3500+ Running anywhere from 112-130F depending on the ambient temp. I've had it for almost a year now and when I first got it it would idle around 85-90F, now it's a full 30 deg hotter. I cleaned my case yesterday and reseat'd the chip with...

    Ram problems??

well I ran it again tonight and got 245 errors after 4 hours of testing. I'd say it's all pretty well F*d. Plus the memory errors span through the whole 1024 megs, not just a 512 mb cluster, so I'm betting it's both sticks. at any rate, i bought em in a dual pack so new egg will replace both :D...

    Ram problems??

finally got around to letting memtest run through it's full test on my box the other day and got a couple of error messages back. they ranged from the 80-81 and 650-652mb ranges on my ram sticks. The ram is Non ECC so I'm wondering if this is just a load error or if I fried it. I'm having...

    XP Sp2 install

installed and everything works fine... well, almost everything. I've run into some stability problems that I had before SP1. sometimes when i exit games my computer does a complete reboot and windows says that a device driver caused the problem. I'm guessing it's the x800 catalyst drivers but...

    XP Sp2 install

Heard bad things about sp2 and I wanted to get it stable, since my gfx drivers required sp1 minimun thats what I went with, so that service pack problems weren't one of my possible glitches in getting everything set up right.
