Couldn't really find a direct answer to this so here it is. I built my new box about 2 weeks ago, went through several formats and such to get everything stable. Installed SP1 about a week ago and had no problems, now I'm leaning towards sp2. IS there anything I should disable (AV, Firewall, etc.) prior to installing sp2 so that nothing interferes with it?

Just don't wanna botch my OS now that I have it the way I like it.

Thanks,
Andy.

I disabled the active virusprotection so it installs faster but other then that I don't think you have to worry. One question, why didn't you install SP2 off the bat instead of SP1a?

Heard bad things about sp2 and I wanted to get it stable, since my gfx drivers required sp1 minimun thats what I went with, so that service pack problems weren't one of my possible glitches in getting everything set up right.

SP2 is good, no problems on any system I've used so far - just in case though, make sure you use the archive option when you install it so it can be removed later

Do be prepared for some problems. I did a fresh WinXP Home install on someone's PC, and all was well. Then I installed SP2. Suddenly, Windowsupdate didn't work - I researched the error, and found that I had been denied access to a bunch of services on the PC. Took a good bit of work, but I finally was able to restore access to everything (involved going through each service one-by-one and checking that proper permissions were in place), and get back to Windowsupdate for further downloads.
Other than that, SP2 seems tolerable. But it was done on a fresh install - I don't know how it might react to a more "inhabited" hard drive.

installed and everything works fine... well, almost everything. I've run into some stability problems that I had before SP1. sometimes when i exit games my computer does a complete reboot and windows says that a device driver caused the problem. I'm guessing it's the x800 catalyst drivers but don't really know what to do about them.

This thread may be of some help. dclive is usually ready and willing to help troubleshoot.

If you wanna see if SP2 is bad or good. Try installing SP2 and then try to install GameJack. After that you can make up your decision. All I got to say for now. ;)
