I just bought an EPoX 8RDA+ mobo and an AXP 1700+ JIUHB 0302.
My first step is from 1466 to 1533 MHz.
Even at this low speed, there are problems. The game NFS HP2 game 'pauses' for one second from time to time; the fps rate is then 0. At normal clock speed this doesn't happen. My video card is...
Klamath and Deschutes are also national forests.
The Springdale chipset (865PE) is due Late April, along with the Pentium 4 HT at 2,40 up to 3,20 GHz. The FSB is, of course, 800 MHz. Let's think again on Barton's 2,16 GHz 3000+ rating!
You're right. The Tbreds are FAR too expensive at the moment. I live in Europe, but in the U.S. things aren't that different. Intel lowered its prices yesterday.
For example, the AMD Athlon XP 2600+ retails around ?30/$30 more than the Pentium 4 2,66 GHz does. Because AMD's ratings are more...
I would prefer the Athlon XP 2400+. The XP 2500+ is simply way too expensive and the rating isn't fair at all.
If you are going to overclock, things MIGHT be change.
It is better not to upgrade on your current motherboard. The price performance ratio is quite bad. Probably your best bet is buying an Athlon XP for $60-$100, a motherboard for $100 and 256/512 MB of DDR SDRAM for $35/$70 and a new videocard. On the Intel side, you'd best opt for a P4 2,4 GHz...
Athlon XP 2400+ (2,00 GHz) or Intel Pentium 4 2,40 GHz. The difference between those two CPUs are probably not noticable. So your choiche will be dependent on other factors:
- Choosing for the popular brand Intel, or supporting the underdog AMD
- Choosing for more MHz or a more advanced core
-...
If the Athlon XP 3000+ (Barton core) really comes out at 2166 MHz, I think it is hardly able to compete with the Pentium 4 3,06 GHz. This probably is yet AMD's goal, launching a product that is a good alternative for Intel's fastest Pentium 4. The difference in clock speed is a whopping 900 MHz...
